Transition/Vocational Coordinator

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Experience in teaching, administration, curriculum development, and working with grants.

2. Knowledge and experience in budget management and supervision.

3. The ability to work closely with staff, administration, Board, students, parents, and the public in a responsible manner.

4. Possess good organizational skills.

5. Background in vocational education and/or private business.

6. Knowledgeable in areas of service providers such as LINK, Voe. Rehab., Home Community Based Services, SRS, etc.

7. The willingness to work as a team member with a variety of individuals and take directions from supervisors.

8. Must have, or be able to obtain, and maintain a valid Kansas driver`s license in order to operate vocational vehicles.

9. Must have and maintain a dependable means of transportation.

10. Ability to lift as required by job.

Certificate/License Requirements

Valid Kansas Teaching Certificate Special Needs Vocational Certificate Counseling Certificate is also preferred

Job Goal:

To provide direction, coordination, and leadership for the Vocational Department. To assist schools with grant programs. To assist students, parents, and teachers with transition services and special education issues. To work directly with teachers, parents, and students in vocational guidance/transition areas.

Performance Responsibilities

1. Responsible for assisting with the monitoring and development of Vocational Department budget and financial transactions.

2. Responsible for timely completion of grant reports and/or correspondence.

3. Keep the Executive Director, Special Education Director, superintendents and board informed on the progress of the Vocational Department.

4. Consult with local administrators and/or staff to determine needs relating to vocational education and transition of the participating districts and recommend methods of meeting these needs.

5. Keep updated in changes which will affect special population students and disseminate information to staff, parents, and students.

6. Work with students in identifying resources which will meet the individual student`s needs and provide assistance to students and parents in obtaining services.

7. Work with students in developing independent living and job related skills.

8. Provide and interpret vocational testing to students, parents, teachers, and/or counselors.

9. Work with the business community in developing job sites for students and assist in monitoring students in the work study program.

10. Represent the NKESC before professional and community groups or assign staff members to provide this responsibility on behalf of the Board.

11. Is responsible for the monitoring of vocational personnel and programs.

12. Respond to the inquiries regarding transition issues in a punctual and responsible manner.

13. Attend IEPs and assist in the development of appropriate student transition plans at the request of the school district.

14. Maintain confidential status of all student data.

15. Maintain professional growth and awareness in relation to working with grants, special education, and in working with special needs populations.

16. Attend in-services relevant to grant goals.

17. Maintain proper license/certificate.

18. Maintain a log of activities as directed to meet local, state, and/or federal guidelines.

19. Provide supervision for paraprofessional/clerical personnel as directed by administration.

20. Perform any other duties as directed.
