Job Title: Foreign Language Teacher (Spanish Preferred)

Job Description: 

Sedgwick Public Schools, USD 439, seeks a highly motivated and talented individual to join our school as a Part-Time Foreign Language Teacher (Spanish Preferred). This position is for 2-3 hours per day with the potential to be full-time if desired by also teaching in neighboring districts.  The ideal candidate will have a passion for education and a commitment to inspiring students to reach their full potential. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching and directing a 9-12 grade foreign language program and will be expected to work collaboratively with colleagues.

Responsibilities:

  1. Classroom Instruction: Deliver comprehensive Spanish language instruction, including grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. Utilize a variety of teaching strategies and resources to accommodate different learning styles and create an inclusive classroom environment.
  2. Assessments and Grading: Develop appropriate assessments and examinations to evaluate students` progress and proficiency in Spanish. Provide constructive feedback to students, maintain accurate and up-to-date records of grades, and communicate student progress to parents or guardians.
  3. Lesson Planning: Plan and prepare well-structured and engaging lesson plans that foster active participation, critical thinking, and cultural exploration. Adapt instructional strategies to address the diverse needs and abilities of students.
  4. Classroom Management: Establish and maintain a positive and respectful classroom environment that encourages student participation, fosters collaboration, and promotes cultural sensitivity. Enforce discipline and manage behavior effectively, addressing any concerns promptly and following school policies.
  5. Cultural Integration: Promote cultural understanding and appreciation by incorporating authentic cultural materials, activities, and discussions related to Spanish-speaking countries into the curriculum. Encourage students to explore the diverse aspects of Hispanic culture, literature, history, and traditions.
  6. Extra-Curricular Activities: Organization and supervise extracurricular activities, such as language clubs, cultural events, field trips, and competitions, to provide additional opportunities for students to practice Spanish and deepen their understanding of Hispanic culture are welcomed but not required.
  7. Professional Development: Stay abreast of the latest educational research, teaching methods, and technological advancements related to Spanish language instruction. Participate in professional development activities and collaborate with colleagues to enhance teaching practices and contribute to the school community.

Qualifications: 

  1. Bachelor`s degree in Spanish, Education, or a related field
  2. Kansas teaching certification in Foreign Language or the ability to obtain certification
  3. Transition to Teaching candidates are encouraged to apply
  4. Demonstrated expertise in various art mediums and techniques
  5. Strong organizational and communication skills
  6. Ability to work collaboratively with families, colleagues, and support staff

Compensation: USD 439 offers a very competitive Salary based on education and experience.  The base salary of USD 439 for the 2022-2023 school year is $46,070 for a Bachelor`s Degree and $50,548 for a Masters Degree.

Compensation: USD 439 offers a very competitive Salary based on education and experience. The base salary of USD 439 for the 2023-2024 school year is $47 567 for a Bachelor s Degree and $52 191 for a Master’s Degree.
