JOB TITLE: Elementary School Principal 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • A current administrator certificate issued by the Kansas State Board of Education. 
  • A master`s degree with a major in educational administration.
  • Experience in public school teaching for a minimum of five years- and an additional two years as principal at the elementary school level is desirable. 
  • Established as an educational leader through active participation in a variety of activities. 
  • Such alternatives to the above as the board of education may find appropriate and acceptable. 

REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Schools 

SUPERVISES: Certified and classified employees and students of assigned buildings. 

 

JOB GOALS: 

To assist the superintendent in providing leadership in developing- achieving- and maintaining the best possible regular and special education programs and services to ensure each elementary student is provided the opportunity to achieve at his/her highest individual potential. 

 

BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The elementary principal shall be the chief administrative officer in the assigned elementary school building under the direct supervision of the superintendent. The elementary principal shall be responsible for the management of personnel- students- services and programs in a manner which is in compliance with the administrative practices- board of education policies- and state statute. 

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Demonstrates knowledge and provides supervision for the development and implementation of USD 418 curriculum and instructional materials- as well as initiates approved new programs. 
  2. Supervises- coordinates- reviews- and evaluates all programs- support services- and assigned personnel as approved by policy and statute. 
  3. Implements the district`s testing requirements- utilizing results in improvement of programs. Evaluates all aspects of students` progress for improvement of instruction. 
  4. Demonstrates an understanding of the growth and development of children and youth- and an ability to apply this knowledge in dealing with students on an individual and/or group basis to develop positive student attitudes- and a discipline plan to assist each student toward positive- self-directed behavior. 
  5. Develops individual and personnel programs that encourage professional growth plans which may include attendance at conferences- workshops- and meetings as required and/or approved while keeping abreast of current research and trends in the field of education. 
  6. Assists in the selection and assignment of building personnel. 
  7. Uses a variety of media to recognize accomplishments and achievements of students and personnel and informs patrons and members of the community about school programs- calendar- policies- and innovation and enlists participation of the community in school activities. 
  8. Assists in the development of budget proposals and monitors budget expenditures for assigned buildings. 
  9. Provides reports- data- and information as required by the superintendent and/or central office administrators- statute- and other official agencies. 
  10. Cooperatively assists in supervising and maintenance of buildings- grounds- and equipment that provides the necessary requirements to maintain a safe and functional facility. 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT 

Two hundred and twelve days duty contract with all holidays and vacations duty free as recognized by board policy. Salary to be determined on a yearly basis. 

 

EVALUATION 

Performance of job will be evaluated in accordance with board of education policy.
