Job Responsibilities: As a 5-12 Vocal Music and Choir Teacher, you will play a vital role in inspiring and educating students in the realm of vocal music. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  1. Developing and implementing a comprehensive vocal music curriculum that aligns with state standards and district objectives.
  2. Teaching vocal music and choir classes to students in grades 5-12, fostering a love for music and nurturing their musical talents.
  3. Planning and conducting engaging and interactive lessons, rehearsals, and performances to enhance students' understanding and appreciation of music.
  4. Assessing student performance and progress, providing constructive feedback, and designing strategies to support individual growth.
  5. Collaborating with other music educators and school staff to organize and participate in concerts, recitals, competitions, and other music-related events.
  6. Encouraging student participation in extracurricular activities such as school choirs, musical productions, and community performances.
  7. Maintaining accurate records of student attendance, grades, and other relevant data in accordance with school policies.
  8. Engaging in ongoing professional development to stay current with advancements in music education and instructional techniques.

Qualifications: To be considered for the position of 5-12 Vocal Music and Choir Teacher, candidates should possess the following qualifications:

  1. A bachelor's degree or higher in Music Education or a related field.
  2. Valid state teaching certification in Music Education, or desire to work towards this certification. 
  3. Prior experience teaching vocal music and choir to students in the specified grade range is preferred but not mandatory for exceptional candidates.
  4. Proficiency in playing at least one musical instrument and accompanying student performances.
  5. Strong knowledge of music theory, vocal techniques, and various musical styles.
  6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with students, parents, colleagues, and the community.
  7. Demonstrated ability to create a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes student engagement and success.
  8. Flexibility, adaptability, and a willingness to collaborate with colleagues in the pursuit of educational excellence.

Salary Information

 

 

Base salary for the current school year starts at $41,200.  Salary schedule includes steps for years of experience and college credit hours.

Employer Information

USD #337, Royal Valley, is located about 15 miles north of Topeka, Kansas on US Highway 75.  Royal Valley schools serve residents along the Highway 75 corridor in southern Jackson County, including the towns of Hoyt and Mayetta, as well as the Prairie Band Potawatomi Reservation.  Royal Valley High School (9-12) is located in Hoyt.  Royal Valley Middle School (5-8) is located in Mayetta, and Royal Valley Elementary School (K-4) is located in Hoyt.  The district serves about 850 students, with Royal Valley High School competing in KSHSAA class 3A.  The district has made significant investment in district facilities and technology, with a 1:1 ratio with Chromebooks for students, grades 3 - 12.  Elementary students have a 1:1 ratio with iPads.  Interested applicants may inquire by email, phone, or mail and should contact Noah Slay, Director of Curriculum & Instruction.
