JDLA Specials Interventionist 

PURPOSES:

Assist teachers in implementing special education activities in specific content areas including but not limited to PE, Art, or Music.  The interventionist will help motivate the students to participate in the assigned tasks physical movement and supervision.  The interventionist will directly participate in assigned activities.   

Essential Functions:

  1. Assist students in performing activities that have been planned and initiated by the teacher.
  2. Provide individual assistance with academic tasks, interactions with other students, and other school activities.
  3. Assist in supervising students on the playground, lunchroom, bathroom, and other school or community environments.
  4. Carry out any behavior intervention plans or student’s assistance plans developed by the supervising teachers or IEP team.
  5. Assist in preparing equipment/materials for all assigned activities.
  6. Collect student performance data and record as directed by the teachers.
  7. Assist a student with daily living skills and self-care as needed.
  8. Report to supervising teachers and/or administrators any problems or questions regarding the assigned students and their educational programs.
  9. Be aware of and follow all policies of JDLA and Keystone Learning Services.
  10. Maintain the confidentiality of student information.
  11. Be physically active on a routine basis while interacting with students.
  12. Participate in activities associated with physical education and/or art and/or music.
  13. Complete required in-service hours as determined by the principal or Keystone administers.  
  14. Demonstrate competence in one or more of the following: 
  15. core motor skills (i.e. sports skills, fitness activities, tumbling, stretching, yoga) 
  16. core artistic skills (i.e. painting, ceramics, photography) 
  17. core music skills (i.e. vocal, instrumental, recording, composing)   

Other Functions:

Perform other related duties as assigned to support JDLA.

Readily cross train with other paraprofessionals to ensure continuity of service.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications: Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

SKILLS in maintaining confidentiality.  Can work as part of a team.

KNOWLEDGE of developmental disabilities in children.  Good rapport with parents, children, and staff is essential.  Must have a positive attitude regarding individuals with disabilities and be willing to accept individual differences in children.   

ABILITY to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Work Environment: 

The usual and customary methods of performing the job`s functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting and carrying up to fifty (50) pounds, some pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling. The employee is required to stand (sometimes for extended periods); walk (sometimes for extended distances, ex. Field trips); and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.  Generally, the job requires 10% sitting, 20% walking, and 70% standing. The job is performed in a generally hazard free environment. 
 

Core requirements

Experience: Preferred two years of related experience, or post-secondary credentials in one or more of the specials content areas.

Education: High School Diploma (Required)

Equivalency: Evidence of the ability to collaborate and work with a diverse customer base.
