Job Title:  College Based ParaEducator 

 

Salary Level: Classified wage schedule.

 

Shift: Varies (not to exceed 17.5 hours per week)

 

Benefit Package: None

 

Duration of Contract: Semester ( not to exceed 500 hours)

Semester 1:  September - December 

Semester 2:  February - April 

 

Reports to: Supervising Teacher/Assistant Director of Special Education

                                                                             


Summary

Provide instructional support to students so they can benefit from their educational program.  Must be currently enrolled in a cooperating college and in the 2nd- 3rd- or 4th year of a teacher education preparatory program.         

 

Education and Experience                                                          

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

 

Qualifications Requirements

 

  1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  2. Criminal history record from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.
  3. Must be currently enrolled in a cooperating college and in the 2nd- 3rd- or 4th year of a teacher education preparatory program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

The essential duties and responsibilities of this position will be the following:

 

  1. Understands program-classroom routines- and contributes to the instruction of students.

 

  1. Follows directions of the supervising teacher.

 

  1. Takes initiative to assist in the assignment/classroom.

 

  1. Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills.

 

  1. Promotes positive self-concept and demonstrates sensitivity in relating to students.

 

  1. Understands and maintains confidentiality.

 

  1. Supervises students.

 

  1. Completes inservice requirements and reports in a timely fashion.

 

Language Skills

      Ability to read- analyze- and interpret general educational documents- technical procedures- and governmental regulations.   Ability to edit reports- correspondence- and procedure manuals.

 

Mathematic Skills

      Ability to add- subtract- multiply- and divide in all units of measure- using whole numbers- common fractions- and decimals.   Ability to compute rate- ratio- and percent; and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

Technology Skills

      Operation of computer keyboard and telephone equipment is essential. Knowledge of basic computer operations of database management- spreadsheet- and word processing are fundamentals to many of the job functions of this position.

 

Reasoning Skills

      Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written- oral- diagram- or schedule form.
