The TBLSEC is accepting applications for an Autism Consultant for the 2022-2023 school year. Candidates must have a valid Kansas High Incidence &/or Low Incidence Special Education teaching license and a minimum of 3 years teaching students with autism spectrum disorders. Advanced knowledge of supports and interventions to address the needs of students with autism spectrum disorders is required.

 

POSITION:  Autism Consultant

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must possess:

  • A valid High Incidence or Low Incidence Special Education License issued by the state of Kansas
  • Master’s degree or higher in Special Education
  • Extensive knowledge of supports and interventions to address the needs of students with autism spectrum disorders
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate regarding special education practices and to coach and support staff and teacher colleagues
  • Minimum of 3 years working with students with autism spectrum disorders
  • A valid Kansas driver’s license- automobile insurance and personal vehicle for required travel throughout the geographic area of the TBLSEC

 

 

REPORTS TO: Special Education Administrators and Building Principal(s)

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Serve as Autism Specialist for the Basehor-Linwood and Tonganoxie.
  2. Serve as the coordinator for the Autism Interdisciplinary Team.
    1. Collect team referral and coordinate team response.
    2. Collect- analyze and synthesize team data into team reports containing goals and strategies.
  3. Work collaboratively with people (i.e. staff- children- parents- supervisors) individually and in multi-disciplinary
  4. Serve as team member for students with Autism Spectrum Disorders to assist in the identification of

student abilities andneeds- and the development of long- and short-term goals.

  1. Design and facilitate implementation of effective curriculum programming for children with Autism SpectrumDisorders to meet IEP goals.
  2. Train and coach staff in appropriate use of visual supports and environmental modifications to meet the educational needs of students with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
  3. Provide crisis response and management for students with Autism Spectrum Disorders who are experiencing significant behavioral and emotional challenges.
  4. Maintain appropriate confidentiality with records and professional relationships.
  5. Work directly with students- staff and parents to develop programming.
  6. Monitor and provide instructional support and feedback.
  7. Develop and implement training and in-service opportunities for educational staff- parents and administratorsin the area of Autism Spectrum Disorders.
  8. Provide shoulder-to-shoulder training of teachers and para-educators in the delivery of special education

services for students with Autism Spectrum Disorders.

  1. Maintain professional skills by attending staff development activities.
  2. Serve on the TBLSEC Leadership Team.
  3. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education and/or the Assistant Director of Special Education.

Basehor-Linwood Unified School District 458 serves students and families in a 90 square mile area of southern Leavenworth County, Kansas. We currently have 8 district attendance centers. Our Early Learning Center for Childcare and Pre-K opened for the 2020-21 school year in August. K-5 buildings are located in Bonner Springs, Basehor and the Glenwood Ridge subdivision. A new K-5 building, located in Basehor, opened in the Fall 2021. Students in grades 6, 7 and 8 attend Basehor-Linwood Middle School in Basehor, near the center of the district. Basehor-Linwood High School, located in Basehor, is a 5A school, serving students in grades 9 through 12. 

 

BLHS was named a 2012 National Blue Ribbon School. In addition, the district operates Basehor-Linwood Virtual School, an internet-based school serving approximately 250 K-12 students statewide instructed by Basehor-Linwood teachers.

 

Special Education services are provided by the Tonganoxie/Basehor-Linwood Special Education Cooperative located in Basehor.
