Greenbush - The Education Service Center is seeking applications for a STEM Education Specialist.

Anticipated start date: August 1, 2023. Position will remain open until filled.

Job Summary: The STEM Education Specialist will collaborate with educators to provide engaging hands-on learning experiences for K-8th grade students. The STEM Education Specialists primary job will be to facilitate developmentally appropriate STEM learning activities and experiences to foster intellectual, physical and social growth, targeting Kansas Standards. They will work closely with the Director of Student Enrichment of Greenbush and Pittsburg State University`s Deputy Strategy Officer on a range of duties and special projects including responsibility for overseeing and teaching STEM-related curriculum, Idea Shop engagement, classroom safety and all administrative aspects of the Pitsco Idea Shop at Block22. The STEM Education Specialist will interact daily with Greenbush and university administrators, faculty, staff, students, and external constituents to provide information about Greenbush, The Foundry @ Block22, The Pitsco Idea Shop, and other Greenbush/USI (University Strategic Initiatives) related units.

Location: The Foundry @ Block 22 and Greenbush Main Campus - Girard

Valid driver’s license required for employment. REAL ID is required if air travel is necessary to complete job duties.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required:

Bachelor’s Degree in Education, preferably science or technology
Five years of experience teaching various grade levels
Valid Kansas Teaching License
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Outstanding computer skills
Valid Kansas Driver’s License

Preferred:

Excellent communication skills
Demonstrated ability to effectively work with students, staff and community
Pursue personal and professional growth
Master’s Degree in related field

RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions:

1. Provide a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
2. Develop STEM labs that incorporate KSDE standards
3. Incorporate strategies to ensure all students have the opportunity to succeed
4. Attends professional development and training related to STEM programs and methodologies, staying abreast of current research.
5. Knowledge of Science, STEM, and robotics curriculum and instructional best practices
6. Collaborate with peers outside of our organization
7. Passion for working with various grade levels
8. Establish and implement student behavior standards (Kaegan Cooperative Learning)
9. Coaches consortium teachers on STEM initiatives and instructional best practices in the STEM areas
10. Uses technology to promote learning, creativity and collaboration. Should have knowledge in javascript, Ozbot, Sprk
11. Prepare materials for STEM lab and science center labs
12. Prepare monthly attendance reports for the Student Enrichment Center

13. Represent the Greenbush’s Student Enrichment Center and Pittsburg State University’s Idea Shop at conferences, periodic
advisory, committee or other meetings

General Responsibilities:

5. Ability to work alone and in groups to provide services.

7. Assume responsibility for individual professional growth by staying current with literature, research, and/or practices.
8. Demonstrate proficiency in ability to effectively and regularly communicate with other employees of the SEKESC and constituents.
9. Complete all assignments in a timely manner including communication with other staff and families.
10. Follow all safety requirements as directed by the SEKESC.
11. Regular and predictive attendance in designated work location as determined by the Executive Director or designee.
12. Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or designee.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Lifting up to 40 pounds.
2. Manage all job duties with mobility, agility, and dexterity.
3. Sit/stand for long periods of time.
4. Work in loud/stressful environments.
5. Ability to drive in varying weather and geographical conditions.
6. Being exposed to infectious and contagious diseases.
7. Being exposed to hazardous materials.
8. Being exposed to work settings that offer a risk to personal security and that are not ADA compliant.
