QUALIFICATIONS:  

  1.  Licensed in the State of Kansas
  2. Minimum of masters degree in educational administration.
  3. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board of education may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO:  Superintendent
 
SUPERVISES:  Such staff members as the superintendent may designate
 
JOB GOAL:  To use leadership, supervisory and administrative skills so as to promote the educational development of each student and staff member
 
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Salary and length of contract to be established by the board of education.
 
EVALUATION:  Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the boards policy on evaluation of professional personnel.
 
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
 

  1. Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school.
  2. Plans, organizes, and directs implementation of all school activities.
  3. Keeps the superintendent and/or assistant superintendent informed of the schools activities and problems.
  4. Makes recommendations concerning the schools administration and instruction.
  5. Prepares and submits the schools budgetary requests, and monitors expenditures of funds.
  6. Supervises the maintenance of all required building records and reports.
  7. Prepares or supervises the preparation of reports, records, lists, and all other paperwork required or appropriate to the schools administration. (Including accreditation and state reports).
  8. Works with various members of the district administrative staff on school issues that relate to district-wide concerns.
  9. Keeps superintendent and/or assistant superintendent informed of events and activities related to the superintendent and/or assistant superintendents accountability.
  10. Enforces district policies and administrative regulations.
  11. Maintains active relationships with students and parents.
  12. Budgets school time to provide for the efficient conduct of school instruction and business.
  13. Leads in the development of the instructional program.
  14. Schedules classes within established guidelines to meet student needs.
  15. Leads the development, revision and evaluation of the curriculum.
  16. Supervises the guidance program to enhance individual student education and development.
  17. Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces disciplines as necessary.
  18. Attends special events held to recognize student achievement, and attends school sponsored activities, functions, and athletic events.
  19. Supervises the maintenance of accurate records on the progress and attendance of students.
  20. Assumes responsibility for the attendance, conduct, and maintenance of health of students and reports to proper authorities when necessary.
  21. Assumes responsibility for professional growth and development through membership and participation in the affairs of professional organizations, through attendance at regional, state, and national meetings, etc.
  22. Supervises all professional, para educator, administrative, and non-professional personnel assigned to the school.
  23. Participates in the selection and supervision of all school building personnel.
  24. Approves the master teaching schedule and any special assignments.
  25. Orients newly assigned staff members and assists in their development, as appropriate.
  26. Evaluates and counsels all staff members regarding their individual and group performance.
  27. Conducts meetings of the staff as necessary for the proper functioning of the school.
  28. Assists in the in-service orientation and training of teachers, with special responsibility for staff administrative procedures and instructions.
  29. Recommends, according to established procedures, the removal of staff under his/her supervision whose work is unsatisfactory.
  30. Makes arrangements for special conferences between parents and teachers.
  31. Assumes responsibility for the safety and administration of the school plant.
  32. Plans and supervises fire drills and crisis preparedness program.
  33. Provides for adequate inventories of property under his/her jurisdiction and for the security and accountability for that property.
  34. Supervises all activities and programs that are outgrowths of the schools curriculum.
  35. Participates in principals meetings and such other meetings as are required or deemed appropriate by the superintendent and/or assisting superintendent.
  36. Responds to written and oral requests for information.
  37. Assumes responsibility for all official school correspondence and news releases.
  38. Acts as liaison between the school and the community, encouraging community participation in school life.
  39. Serves as a member of such committees and attends such meetings as directed to be the superintendent.
  40. Delegates authority to responsible personnel to assume responsibility for the school in the absence of the principal.
  41. Provides leadership to parent and community groups within the school, especially PTO and Site Council.
  42. Oversees the proper implementation of the special education programs in the building.
  43. Assumes responsibility for the enrolling of students, as well as their withdrawal from school (including requests, sending and maintenance of all student records).
  44. Performs other duties as assigned by the superintendent and/or assistant superintendent.
  45. Responsible for planning, implementation and monitoring results of state assessments.
  46. Plans and implements appropriate professional development opportunities for staff.
  47. Develops, supports and implements a collaborative professional community that includes input from students, staff, and parents as program design in all curriculum areas is developed.
