QUALIFICATIONS:
- Licensed in the State of Kansas
- Minimum of masters degree in educational administration.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board of education may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Superintendent SUPERVISES: Such staff members as the superintendent may designate JOB GOAL: To use leadership, supervisory and administrative skills so as to promote the educational development of each student and staff member TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and length of contract to be established by the board of education. EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the boards policy on evaluation of professional personnel. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: - Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school.
- Plans, organizes, and directs implementation of all school activities.
- Keeps the superintendent and/or assistant superintendent informed of the schools activities and problems.
- Makes recommendations concerning the schools administration and instruction.
- Prepares and submits the schools budgetary requests, and monitors expenditures of funds.
- Supervises the maintenance of all required building records and reports.
- Prepares or supervises the preparation of reports, records, lists, and all other paperwork required or appropriate to the schools administration. (Including accreditation and state reports).
- Works with various members of the district administrative staff on school issues that relate to district-wide concerns.
- Keeps superintendent and/or assistant superintendent informed of events and activities related to the superintendent and/or assistant superintendents accountability.
- Enforces district policies and administrative regulations.
- Maintains active relationships with students and parents.
- Budgets school time to provide for the efficient conduct of school instruction and business.
- Leads in the development of the instructional program.
- Schedules classes within established guidelines to meet student needs.
- Leads the development, revision and evaluation of the curriculum.
- Supervises the guidance program to enhance individual student education and development.
- Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces disciplines as necessary.
- Attends special events held to recognize student achievement, and attends school sponsored activities, functions, and athletic events.
- Supervises the maintenance of accurate records on the progress and attendance of students.
- Assumes responsibility for the attendance, conduct, and maintenance of health of students and reports to proper authorities when necessary.
- Assumes responsibility for professional growth and development through membership and participation in the affairs of professional organizations, through attendance at regional, state, and national meetings, etc.
- Supervises all professional, para educator, administrative, and non-professional personnel assigned to the school.
- Participates in the selection and supervision of all school building personnel.
- Approves the master teaching schedule and any special assignments.
- Orients newly assigned staff members and assists in their development, as appropriate.
- Evaluates and counsels all staff members regarding their individual and group performance.
- Conducts meetings of the staff as necessary for the proper functioning of the school.
- Assists in the in-service orientation and training of teachers, with special responsibility for staff administrative procedures and instructions.
- Recommends, according to established procedures, the removal of staff under his/her supervision whose work is unsatisfactory.
- Makes arrangements for special conferences between parents and teachers.
- Assumes responsibility for the safety and administration of the school plant.
- Plans and supervises fire drills and crisis preparedness program.
- Provides for adequate inventories of property under his/her jurisdiction and for the security and accountability for that property.
- Supervises all activities and programs that are outgrowths of the schools curriculum.
- Participates in principals meetings and such other meetings as are required or deemed appropriate by the superintendent and/or assisting superintendent.
- Responds to written and oral requests for information.
- Assumes responsibility for all official school correspondence and news releases.
- Acts as liaison between the school and the community, encouraging community participation in school life.
- Serves as a member of such committees and attends such meetings as directed to be the superintendent.
- Delegates authority to responsible personnel to assume responsibility for the school in the absence of the principal.
- Provides leadership to parent and community groups within the school, especially PTO and Site Council.
- Oversees the proper implementation of the special education programs in the building.
- Assumes responsibility for the enrolling of students, as well as their withdrawal from school (including requests, sending and maintenance of all student records).
- Performs other duties as assigned by the superintendent and/or assistant superintendent.
- Responsible for planning, implementation and monitoring results of state assessments.
- Plans and implements appropriate professional development opportunities for staff.
- Develops, supports and implements a collaborative professional community that includes input from students, staff, and parents as program design in all curriculum areas is developed.
