Qualifications:

  1. Kansas Teaching Certificate/License - Family and Consumer Science, Home Economics Junior High, Home Economics, Home Economics Voc St Apv Prog, Vocational Home Economics
  2. Highly qualified; status according to KSDE and federal regulations

Or

  1. Five years of culinary industry experience plus industry-recognized credentials

And

  1. Ability to proctor students for ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification or must obtain ServSafe certification during first year of employment

Job Goal:

Instruct and train high school students in introductory culinary arts. Included in instruction are safety and sanitation, cooking and baking methods and techniques, advanced cooking and guest relations, international cuisine, identification of tools and ingredients, nutrition, menu development, food service math, and guest service. Integrated throughout are essential employability skills for entry-level culinary positions.

 

Performance and Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and implement lessons to teach skills required for students to master competencies in culinary arts with integration of English language arts, mathematics, and critical thinking skill development
  2. Coordinate and supervise work-based learning projects within the campus or community-based projects.
  3. Develop effective lesson plans that follow state-approved Career Technical Education (CTE) standards and develop and demonstrate industry skills and concepts using frequent hands-on activities, models, teacher-prepared instructional aids, supplies, technology, and lab experiences on and off campus.
  4. Guide students in making career-related decisions and provide students with instruction on general employment skills including (but not limited to) communication skills, job retention skills and resume writing.
  5. Develop industry partnerships and collaborate with partners regarding program initiatives and training methodologies.
  6. Builds instruction upon previously learned materials.
  7. Uses a variety of teaching materials and techniques as appropriate for the content area.
  8. Uses a variety of teaching materials and techniques as appropriate for all students/adults as assigned.
  9. Provides for regular assessment of student/adult needs and progress.
  10. Provides for appropriate re-teaching, adaptation, and/or extensions if needed.
  11. Provides evidence of individual student/adult learning.
  12. Prepares for assigned classes and can show evidence of such preparation.
  13. Demonstrates effective skills in reading, writing, math, and speaking as necessary for the assignment.
  14. Demonstrates command of the subject matter for which he/she is assigned to teach/coordinate.
  15. Implements the districts written curriculum and the state and district assessment program.
  16. Demonstrates commitment to learn and apply new instructional and technology skills as related to assignment.
  17. Works with other members of the staff in planning building or district curriculum, instructional goals, objectives, methods, and assessments.
  18. Attends and participates in assigned staff/team meetings.
  19. Cooperates with others regarding the selection, use, and sharing of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  20. Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students.
  21. Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to learning.
  22. Establishes and maintains communications with students, parents, colleagues, and others as
  23. related to assignment.
  24. Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.
  25. Demonstrates respect and value for all students and staff.
  26. Maintains professional and ethical standards.
  27. Meets and instructs students/adults at designated location and times.
  28. Upholds and enforces school rules, district policies, and administrative regulations.
  29. Maintains state certification/licensure standards for teachers in the field for which he/she is assigned.

 

Critical Skills:

  1. Possess and maintain licensure (certification) in the state of Kansas
  2. Ability to speak clearly and audibly to various groups expressing ideas in a logical and forthright manner
  3. Possess composition skills suitable for producing written communication for a variety of readers
  4. Ability to quickly analyze a situation and provide prompt advice
  5. Ability to respond to information requests in a courteous, timely and helpful manner
  6. Ability to perform job responsibilities using appropriate software on district computer system and communication equipment
  7. Ability to manage job responsibilities while meeting established deadlines
  8. Ability to work constructively and cooperatively with others
  9. Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor
