Basehor-Linwood USD 458 is currently seeking a Secondary Band Instructor for the 2022-2023 school year for Basehor-Linwood  Middle School.

 

DESCRIPTION: 

The instrumental music teacher creates a positive learning environment to facilitate the personal- social- and intellectual development of students through a planned and organized instrumental music program.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:                     

  1. Plans a balanced music program- and organizes daily class time so that preparation- rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
  2. Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature- including traditional and contemporary- that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of pupils.
  3. Controls the storage and use of school-owned property; makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to instruments as required.
  4. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to provide an orderly- productive environment during practice- group rehearsals and musical performances.
  5. Evaluates each pupil`s musical growth and performance- assessing each individual`s contribution to the performance of the group.
  6. Plans- rehearses and directs pupils in musical programs for school and community.
  7. Selects and requisitions books- musical instruments and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records.
  8. Communicates with parents and counselors on student’s progress.
  9. Cooperates with the school administration in providing musical programs for school productions- graduation ceremonies and civic functions.
  10. Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
  11. Participates in faculty committees and sponsorship of pupil activities.
  12. Maintains professional competence through in-service education provided by the district- and in self-selected professional growth activities related to music.
  13. Ensure that all activities conform to district guidelines.
  14. Communicate effectively with all members of the school district and community.
  15. Work effectively with community organizations.
  16. React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
  17. Support the value of education.
  18. Support the mission and vision of U.S.D. #458.
  19. See that district policies are observed during all music related activities.
  20. Keep abreast of new information- best practices- innovative ideas- and techniques.
  21. Adhere to all district health and safety policies- including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
  22. Other duties as assigned by the Principal- or other Administrative Staff.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:           

  1. Bachelor’s degree in music/instrumental education
  2. Currently hold or be eligible for a Kansas certificate in respective content area
  3. Demonstrated knowledge of methods of effective instruction
  4. Desire and ability to work with students and staff
  5. A willingness to cooperate with and follow the directions of the school principal
  6. The ability and willingness to communicate with parents
  7. Knowledge of effective methods of behavior modifications with students
  8. Ability to plan- organize- and see that activities are completed
  9. Proficient in data collection and reporting
  10. Excellent written and oral skills
  11. Proficient in Microsoft and Google applications                  

                                                                       

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in the work environment- as well as from building to building. Regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job is required.

Basehor-Linwood Unified School District 458 serves students and families in a 90 square mile area of southern Leavenworth County, Kansas. We currently have 8 district attendance centers. Our Early Learning Center for Childcare and Pre-K opened for the 2020-21 school year in August. K-5 buildings are located in Bonner Springs, Basehor and the Glenwood Ridge subdivision. A new K-5 building, located in Basehor, opened in the Fall 2021. Students in grades 6, 7 and 8 attend Basehor-Linwood Middle School in Basehor, near the center of the district. Basehor-Linwood High School, located in Basehor, is a 5A school, serving students in grades 9 through 12. 

 

BLHS was named a 2012 National Blue Ribbon School. In addition, the district operates Basehor-Linwood Virtual School, an internet-based school serving approximately 250 K-12 students statewide instructed by Basehor-Linwood teachers.

 

Special Education services are provided by the Tonganoxie/Basehor-Linwood Special Education Cooperative located in Basehor.
