The job description listed below is designed to provide a general outline of the expectations of the Food Service Assistant Site Manager in USD 409. As such the descriptions should not be interpreted as all encompassing or inclusive.
Title: Food Service Assistant Site Manager
Purpose: The Food Service Assistant Site Manager assists in food preparation and kitchen operations. The Food Service Assistant Site Manger must work closely with the Food Service Site Manager and school staff and administration. This position is a non-exempt position according to the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Responsible to: Food Service Site Manager
Payment rate: Salary and benefits to be established by the Board of Education.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent and ability to perform basic math functions.
- Experience in institutional food preparation and kitchen management.
- Desire to continue career improvement by enhancing skills and job performance.
- Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the central office (after employment offer is made).
- Requires prolonged sitting- standing- and use of equipment including repetitive motions.
- Adequate physical strength to manually move- carry- lift- pull or push heavy objects or materials.
- Capable of stooping- bending and reaching.
- Flexibility in work hours as required to fulfill duties.
- Requires transportation to schools within the school district and the ability to run errands.
- Must be able to work in noisy and crowded environments- with numerous interruptions.
General Functions:
- Assist in the food preparation.
- Ensure all activities conform to District- community and KSDE guidelines.
- Communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with members of the school district and community.
- React to change and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner- meeting deadlines as assigned.
- Have knowledge concerning the appropriate operation of all kitchen equipment.
- Implement the vision and mission of the District.
- Observe and follow all school district policies at all times.
- Implement and follow all District health and safety policies.
- Regular attendance is required of all employees subject to allowed leave in accordance with district policy or negotiated agreement- as appropriate. Excessive absences or tardiness- unauthorized leave or unexcused absences may result in disciplinary action including termination of employment.

Essential Responsibilities:
- Assist the Food Service Site Manager to ensure that all records and supporting documentation are maintained in accordance with federal- state and local laws and policies.
- Prepare or assist in preparing food as assigned.
- Assist with service of food to students and adults using portion control standards.
- Follow proper food handling to maintain food quality and ensure food safety.
- Practice proper operation of equipment to assure safety and avoid damage to equipment.
- Report food supply needs and equipment problems to the Food Service Site Manager.
- Prepare accurate time sheets for each pay period. Come to work everyday and on time.
- Maintain job skills to perform assigned duties and participate in available training programs.
- Practice good personal hygiene and food safety.
- Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as directed by the Food Service Site Manager.
Term of Employment: Ten month wage agreement – Employee At Will
Evaluation: Performance of this position will be evaluated by the Food Service Coordinator according to USD 409 School Board of Education policies and Kansas Statutes.
