Speech Language Pathologist

Marion County Special Education Cooperative #617 has an opening for a Speech Language Pathologist for the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 school years.  This is a full-time position. 

 

Qualifications:

  1. Master`s Degree Required
  2. Kansas Certification/Licensure in Speech/Language Pathology (Will accept Clinical Fellowship Year applicants)

 

Essential Functions Of The Job:

  1. Ability to provide individualized programs of therapy to correct existing speech or language disorders
  2. Ability to observe and refer suspected and identified speech and language impairments
  3. Ability to assess and diagnose speech, voice, hearing, and language impairments

 

Duties (Direct or Consultative):

  1. Provide a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice, hearing, and language impairments.  Upon request, may provide screenings for preschool and kindergarten.
  2. Provide direct therapy in individual and group sessions, focusing on articulation, language, fluency, and voice disorders.
  3. Conduct impedance audiometry tests, as warranted.
  4. Help plan programs to be carried out by teacher/paraeducator at school or by the parents at home as stipulated on the IEP.
  5. Consult with regular education/special education teachers regarding students with speech/language problems who do not qualify for speech.
  6. Consult with teachers and parents to provide recommendations for achieving carry-over of trained skills to classroom and home settings.
  7. Participate as a member of the evaluation team, providing insight to parents and staff from areas of expertise.
  8. Serve as a liaison for relevant medical services and community resources.

 

Other:

  1. Serve as case manager for speech/language referrals, complete and compile all required forms and reports.
  2. Conduct three-year reevaluations of students receiving speech/language therapy as their primary services.
  3. Continuously measure student progress toward learning goals and objectives in order to guide therapeutic decisions.
  4. Update student progress toward objectives on a nine-week basis.
  5. Prepare reports and recommendations for every child on current caseload.
  6. Maintain professional growth through participation in continuing education.
  7. Serve on committees to promote or further the goals and policies of the Cooperative.
  8. Maintain and complete documentary logs regularly.
  9. Perform other duties and responsibilities as determined by the Director of Special Education.

Marion County Special Education Cooperative #617 serves students in five school districts within Marion County, including USD 410 Durham-Hillsboro-Lehigh, USD 408 Marion-Florence, USD 398 Peabody-Burns, USD 397 Centre-Lost Springs, and USD 411 Goessel. MCSEC is an inter-local that offers services for students birth to age 21.  

 

WHAT`S NEW:  In 2018, MCSEC and Tabor College partnered to form Project SEARCH, an educational transition program for older students with disabilities. Our Project SEARCH is a hybrid program that accepts interns from 18-30 years of age. The interns rotate through various departments of the college working in three different internship sites over the school year.  Marion County has appreciated this wonderful opportunity to further serve older students with disabilities.
