Job Description

 JOB TITLE: 8-12 FACS Instructor.  This job is classified as an exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act.

PAYMENT RATE:  Salary is based on a negotiated salary scale. USD 287 honors prior teaching service. Negotiated Agreement and salary schedule may be reviewed at www.usd287.org.  This position could include a supplemental contract as the FCCLA sponsor.  

RESPONSIBLE TO:  Building Principal/Superintendent of Schools

QUALIFICATIONS:  The successful candidate must have or be eligible for a Kansas Teaching License for grades 8-12.  Non-traditional (business to teacher) candidates are encouraged.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Salary and work year will be in accordance with the negotiated agreement.

The West Franklin School District serves the communities of Pomona and Williamsburg, Kansas and is a predominately rural school community of approximately 635 students Pre-K through grade 12.

The West Franklin School District is located in western Franklin County, 35 miles southeast of Topeka, 30 miles southwest of Lawrence and 10 miles west of Ottawa. The West Franklin School District is a short commute from Osage City, Lyndon, Baldwin City, Ottawa, Lawrence and Topeka.  

The patrons of the district recently passed a $13 million bond issue.  The improvements at the WFMS/HS campus include a new storm shelter that will also serve as our weight room and music room, a 1300 seat gymnasium, a new shop area to house our agriculture and woods programs, new HS offices, and an 8-lane track with field event areas.  The improvements also connect all buildings on our campus to enhance student safety.

West Franklin Unified School District 287 is comprised of two elementary schools, a middle school and a high school.

 

The two elementary schools serve Pre-K through grade 5; Appanoose Elementary is located in a rural location 7 miles north of Pomona, while Williamsburg Elementary is located within Williamsburg city limits. West Franklin Middle School, serving grades 6-8 and West Franklin High School, which houses grades 9-12 are on the same campus and both are situated in the town of Pomona. West Franklin Learning Center serves students in grades 6-12 who function better in a non-traditional setting and is located on the campus of Williamsburg Elementary.

 

The primary goal of the West Franklin School District is to successfully educate all students to the highest level in a safe and respectful environment. Technology is a high priority and is integrated into all subjects. A strong emphasis is placed on reading and math skills in grades Pre-K through 5. Middle School offers strong academic core courses with a wide variety of exploratory experiences as well as opportunities to participate in a variety of inter-scholastic sports and extra-curricular activities. West Franklin High School offers 90 different courses as well as 28 extra-curricular activities, including 14 non-athletic organizations. WFHS partners with Neosho County Community College to provide dual courses awarded toward both high school and college transcripts. 

 

West Franklin USD #287 is the perfect setting for those that enjoy small-town rural life with access to city amenities or lakeside fun. Kansas City, Lawrence, and Topeka are within an hour drive. Pomona, Melvern and Clinton Lakes offer close recreational facilities for those interested in water sports or other outside activities.
