POSITION: Occupational Therapist

 

QUALIFICATIONS: The candidate must possess:

  • An occupational therapy license from the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts
  • A valid Kansas drivers license
  • Experience providing occupational therapy with an emphasis on developmental disabilities
  • Experience working collaboratively with teams and families.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working in a school setting

 

REPORTS TO: TBLSEC Special Education Administrators and USD 458 & USD 464 Building Principals

 

JOB SUMMARY:

The Occupational Therapist will provide occupational therapy to individuals and groups of students with exceptionalities in the educational setting per the students Individual Education Plan (IEP). 

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Administers occupational therapy assessments to determine a students level of functioning relative to their age and educational placement in such areas as fine/gross motor skill development, sensory-motor integration, self-care, and the activities of daily living.
  • Writes assessment reports identifying the students needs.
  • Writes proposed goals and objectives as part of the IEP based on the educational goals to improve the students functional abilities within the school and naturalistic settings.
  • Maintains progress data.
  • Participates in the IEP meeting.
  • Collaborates with other providers.
  • Provides students with individual and group therapy sessions.
  • Adapts equipment to assure proper positioning and to enhance functional performance of the student.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Basehor-Linwood Unified School District 458 serves students and families in a 90 square mile area of southern Leavenworth County, Kansas. We currently have 8 district attendance centers. Our Early Learning Center for Childcare and Pre-K opened for the 2020-21 school year in August. K-5 buildings are located in Bonner Springs, Basehor and the Glenwood Ridge subdivision. A new K-5 building, located in Basehor, opened in the Fall 2021. Students in grades 6, 7 and 8 attend Basehor-Linwood Middle School in Basehor, near the center of the district. Basehor-Linwood High School, located in Basehor, is a 5A school, serving students in grades 9 through 12. 

 

BLHS was named a 2012 National Blue Ribbon School. In addition, the district operates Basehor-Linwood Virtual School, an internet-based school serving approximately 250 K-12 students statewide instructed by Basehor-Linwood teachers.

 

Special Education services are provided by the Tonganoxie/Basehor-Linwood Special Education Cooperative located in Basehor.
