Job Title:   Middle School ELA Curriculum Coach

Position Function:  Assists teachers in buildings with instruction through modeling, observation, feedback, and coaching. Actively participates as a member of the Curriculum and Instructional Design team to support curriculum, curriculum development, staff development, instruction and assessments related to middle school English Language Arts skills across all content areas.

Essential Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Provides support to schools regarding English Language Arts curriculum, staff development, instruction and assessment
  2. Develops and presents professional development that is aligned with adult learning theory
  3. Collaborates with all members of the Learning Services Division
  4. Coordinates professional development, curriculum development, and assessments
  5. Maintains and broadens knowledge of current educational research in curriculum and instruction
  6. Facilitates New Teacher Orientation and New Teacher Induction for Middle School English Language Arts
  7. Data collection that includes assessment data as well as teacher and student interviews, and data analysis
  8. Supports district interdisciplinary programs as appropriate
  9. Develop and align district’s Middle School English Language Arts curriculum standards and programs
  10. Maintains communications with KSDE curriculum representatives regarding standards, assessment practices, and state initiatives related to Middle School English Language Arts
  11. Leads professional development associated with instruction and district initiatives as appropriate for teacher/student groups.
  12. Typical tasks may include: Coaching conversations, small group activities, large group presentations
  13. Works with the other Curriculum Coaches for PK-12 articulation of curriculum
  14.  Actively participates as a member of a new teacher induction team, and monthly teacher support meetings; such as high school department chair meetings

Additional Duties: Assists with additional duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Equipment: The employee must demonstrate the ability to use basic office equipment such as computers, scanners, copiers, and fax machine. Must always comply with USD 259’s guidelines for equipment use.

Travel:  Limited travel between schools and central offices may be required.

·         Ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities

·         Additional demands upon request of Supervisor

Interrelations:

·         Contact with personnel within the district and with customers and vendors

·         Will be working under the direct supervision of the department supervisor in order to complete day to day tasks

·         Will be working with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy

·         Must understand and respond appropriately to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues

·         Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly, professional manner and provide quick, responsive customer service

Employee Punctuality and Appearance

  • In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave
  • Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee’s supervisor or building administrator
  • All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of USD 259 and is appropriate for their position

Qualification Profile:

·         Must hold a Kansas Teaching License

·         Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience

FLSA Status:  Exempt
