Title:  Speech Language Pathologist Assistant       

 

Reports to:  Principal and/or designee

  

Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree in Communication Disorders or other applicable field required. Bachelor`s degree in applicable field from accredited college/university preferred.
  • Other alternatives as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

 

Purpose and Objectives of the Position:

 

The Speech Language Pathologist Assistant provides educational and clerical support services- works with students who have identified speech and language disorders as well as other disabilities and assists with the supervision and instruction of students as directed by the assigned SLP.

 

Performance responsibilities:

 

  • Conducts speech and language screenings- without interpretation- and uses screening protocols developed by the Language- Speech- and Hearing Therapist
  • Provides direct treatment assistance to students
  • Follows and implements documented treatment plans or protocols
  • Documents student progress toward meeting established objectives and reports the information to therapist
  • Assists the therapist during assessments by assisting with documentation and performing clerical duties
  • Prepares therapy material and/or equipment for use in therapy activities; adapts or modifies instructional materials and/or equipment as determined by student needs and abilities
  • Assists in maintaining student records- tallying data- preparing charts- records- graphs and reports
  • Observes and reports significant behavioral patterns or other problems to the therapist
  • Assists in maintaining appropriate behavior between activities; and prepares various teaching materials such as charts- pictures- word lists- and other related items
  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Procures supplies and equipment following building budget guidelines.
  • Establishes guidelines that ensure the care and maintenance of district facilities and equipment.

VII. The employee models positive professional attributes.

  • Participates in professional activities to enhance knowledge and skills.
  • Uses written and spoken language well.
  • Maintains positive contact with supervisors and peers.
  • Handles work in a timely and effective manner.
  • Maintains physical and skill requirements necessary to meet job responsibilities.

Other Duties

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor and in accordance with USD 453 Board of Education policies.

 

Knowledge- Skills- and Abilities Required:

  • Ability to work cooperatively and constructively with others- including the ability to communicate effectively with a broad number of audiences.
  • Ability to manage job responsibilities and to meet the established district outcomes.
  • Ability to use necessary district-identified computer hardware and software- and other district-provided technology.
  • Ability to physically adapt to the compressed time schedule of a school day and year.
  • Other alternatives as set by the Board of Education.
