PHYSICAL THERAPIST

Qualifications:

  1. PT License, Kansas State Board of Healing Arts
  2. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
  3. Prefer experience working with children

Reports To: Principal or administrator designee

Job Goal: Provide an effective program of instruction based on the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.

Performance and Responsibilities:

  1. Provides physical therapy to students who have been identified as being able to benefit from physical therapy sessions.
  2. Suggest interventions that will make a physically challenged student easier access to his/her education.
  3. Collaborate with and refer to occupational therapist and motor specialists as needed for student benefit.
  4. Provide training, support, and supervision of paraprofessional by working with related certified teacher(s).
  5. Participate in and demonstrate continued professional development.
  6. Document services provided and progress of students
  7. Travel to/from schools.
  8. Maintain current knowledge of special education laws and regulations and meet their requirements.
  9. Perform accurate, functional and relevant assessment of individual’s student’s physical needs for eligibility.
  10. Maintain current and accurate Individual Education Plans.
  11. Work in a problem-solving manner with other staff and parents in the development of a program that supports student’s growth and success.
  12. Provides for a regular assessment of student needs and progress.
  13. Provides and/or suggests adaptations if needed for the student.
  14. Attends and participates in assigned staff/team meetings.
  15. Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students.
  16. Establishes and maintains communications with students, parents, colleagues and others as related to assignment.
  17. Demonstrates respect and value for all students and staff.
  18. Maintains professional and ethical standards.
  19. Meets with students at designated location and times.
  20. Upholds and enforces school rules, district policies, and administrative regulations.
  21. Maintains state certification/licensure standards for physical therapists.
  22. Other duties as required or assigned by the supervisor.

 

Critical Skills:

  • Possess and maintain licensure (certification) in the state of Kansas
  • Ability to speak clearly and audibly to various groups expressing ideas in a logical and forthright manner
  • Possess composition skills suitable for producing written communication for a variety of readers
  • Ability to quickly analyze a situation and provide prompt advice
  • Ability to respond to information requests in a courteous, timely and helpful manner
  • Ability to perform job responsibilities using appropriate software on district computer system and communication equipment
  • Ability to manage job responsibilities while meeting established deadlines
  • Ability to work constructively and cooperatively with others

 

Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor
