Purpose:
To provide expertise to instructional staff in pedagogy, methods and materials for the improvement of instruction and student achievement.


Qualifications:

  • Possess Valid Kansas ELA License for grades 
  • Advanced degree, experience and/or specialized training in curriculum content and instructional pedagogy relative to assignment.
  • Knowledge and experience with instruction, methodology and materials related to bilingual education.  ESL/ESOL endorsement preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with fellow educators to develop, implement and evaluate instructional strategies and materials to improve teaching and learning for all students.
  • Kansas Certification of Health on file in the Central Office.

 
Essential Functions: 
Knowledge, Skill and Abilities

  • Contribute to the improvement initiatives of the district and individual school buildings.
  • Work effectively with district and building administration, as well as instructional staff to improve literacy instruction and student achievement.
  • Provide instructional direction, assistance and support to classroom teachers.
  • Assist in the assessment and analysis of student achievement for program improvement.
  • Monitor and assist with the implementation, delivery and evaluation of district-approved curriculum, materials and instructional methodology.
  • Communicate in a professional manner with staff, students and the public.
  • Provide on-going professional growth opportunities for district staff.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work successfully in multiple buildings, on flexible schedules, with various administrative and instructional staff.
  • Observe district, State and federal policies and guidelines relative to job responsibilities.

 
General Responsibilities:

  • Coach and support instructional staff in the implementation of effective literacy instructional strategies to deliver the district’s approved ELA curriculum.
  • Provide staff development activities for instructional staff relative to current research and trends, as well as district-adopted/approved ELA materials, methodologies and curriculum.
  • Perform classroom visitations, including model teaching lessons.
  • Assist administrative and instructional staff with the analysis of student achievement information, and with the development of plans to address identified areas of weakness.
  • Confer with district and building administrative personnel regarding progress and concerns related to student achievement.
  • Advise administrative and instructional staff regarding the use of approved instructional resources, materials and methodologies.
  • Assist administrative and instructional staff in the observation of student academic performance and the recommendation of appropriate interventions to support improved teaching and learning.
  • Assist in developing, maintaining and enhancing the services, including in-service activities, to staff, students and patrons provided through The Learning Center.
  • Continue personal professional growth, and share related information, materials and strategies with instructional and administrative staff.
  • React positively to change.
  • Respond effectively and efficiently to other tasks as assigned.

 
 
Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to travel among the district’s school and administrative sites.
  • Must be able to work in both classroom and office settings.
  • Must occasionally lift materials and equipment up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • May require extended periods of both sitting and standing.
  • Requires patience to work with numerous interruptions, flexible scheduling and various staff.

 
 
Work Environment:
The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
