JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Kansas Deafblind Project Director is responsible for leading and implementing the State of Kansas DeafBlind Project (KSDB) grant goals, common measures, and project objectives. The position involves coordinating with state and national organizations, managing programs and budgets, writing federal grants and annual performance reports, supervising support staff and parent volunteers, providing technical assistance to families and educators serving students birth to 21 years old, and promoting awareness about deafblindness in the state.


This position is supported by federal funding through a five-year Technical Assistance and Dissemination discretionary grant from the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP), U.S. Department of Education. The director will meet regularly with the OSEP Project Officer. This position requires mandatory, out-of-state travel to attend the annual OSEP Project Directors Conference and DeafBlind Summit and occasional in-state travel.


The Kansas DeafBlind Project Director reports to the Superintendent of the Kansas State School for the Blind.


Additional Responsibilities Include:
- Identify children who are DeafBlind in the state
- Maintain a statewide registry of children who are DeafBlind and conduct annual child count with support from the KSDB Project Data Specialist.
- Meet with the KSDB Project Advisory Council once a year
- Manage and coordinate the training activities, professional development, and learning modules
- Collect data for annual performance report
- Support DB Project staff in developing, maintaining, and updating the website
- Coordinate family networking opportunities with the family engagement coordinator
- Create promotional materials and organize related events
- Collaborate with Kansas State School for the Blind (KSSB) instructional and field service departments, business office, school districts, DB Core Teams, and KSDE Coordinator for DeafBlind Funds
- Review and approve scholarship applications for families and providers 
- Establish relationships with in-state and out-of-state organizations (e.g., CHARGE Syndrome Foundation, NFADB, Usher Syndrome Coalition, Helen Keller National Center, Utah State University, etc.)
- May participate in activities sponsored by the National Center on DeafBlindness and collaborate with other State DB Projects
- All other duties as assigned


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Licensure, or the ability to obtain licensure, as TSVI/TOD or related field
Masters degree in Sensory Disabilities (deafblindness, visual impairment, and/or deafness), Special Education, or related field
Three years experience working with children and youth who have sensory or other disabilities


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
All offers of employment from Kansas State School for the Blind (KSSB) are contingent upon background check results and any applicable workplace references. Background checks are completed via the KS Bureau of Investigation, Backgrounds Plus consents, Kansas Department of Children and Family Services, and Dru Sjodin National Sexual Offender Registry. KSSB may contact previous employers for workplace references. Within 30
days of employment, a tuberculosis test (and any applicable treatment), as well as health certificate must be completed by a medical provider at the cost of the employee.
