McPherson USD 418 has a job opening for a Reading Intervention Specialist at McPherson Middle School.

 JOB GOALS:

The Reading Intervention Specialist will work with the building principal, Director of Curriculum & Instruction,  and instructional staff to coordinate supplemental and intensive reading services for students who struggle with any area of the reading process. The person in this position will consult with classroom teachers regarding evidence and research based instructional practices, curriculum resources, and interventions specific to learning to read. The Reading Intervention Specialist will also coordinate the building-wide structure for providing reading interventions to students, as well as supervise the building’s reading tutors.

 Performance Responsibilities

 They shall include the following.  Other duties may be assigned by the supervisor.

  1. Works with individual and small groups of students who are not meeting grade-level expectations in reading.
  2. Serves as the FastBridge building manager. 
  3. Coordinates the building benchmarking process using FastBridge assessments.
  4. Coordinates the administration of district reading assessments within the building.
  5. Assists classroom teachers with progress monitoring using FastBridge assessments.
  6. Participates in building PLCs and district PLCs.
  7. Coordinates the dissemination and interpretation of FastBridge and other district data.
  8. Organizes and coordinates and leads “data days” with PLC teams.
  9. Remains up-to-date regarding knowledge and understanding of research and evidence-based practices related to reading instruction.
  10. Participates on building level and district level MTSS leadership teams.
  11. Makes recommendations to administration on areas pertaining to reading instruction and MTSS.
  12. Participates in training and professional development as mutually agreed upon with administration.
  13. Organizes and coordinates the structure, including schedules and resources, needed to provide supplemental and intense interventions to students who struggle learning to read.
  14.  Serves as an expert resource to instructional staff regarding all things related to reading instruction.
  15. Meets with parents to explain building wide support structures as well as individual supports assisting students who are struggling to learn to read.
  16. Collaborates with other Reading Intervention Specialists and the Director of Instruction regarding all things related to reading instruction.
  17. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Instruction or Superintendent.

Terms of Employment

As determined by the existing master contract/negotiated agreement.

 Evaluation

Performance of the job will be evaluated in accordance with board of education policy.
