Reports To:  Building Principal

 

Position Purpose:   

The Athletic Director will work with the High School Principal and coaches/sponsors in a team setting to assure compliance with the policies and procedures of the Board of Education; federal- state- and local laws; and KSHSAA regulations and mandates.  The Athletic Director is responsible for the development and maintenance of a vigorous athletics and activities program that is consistent with the overall educational goals and programs of the district.           

 

Qualifications: 

  • Kansas teaching license preferred
  • Kansas administrative license preferred
  • Minimum of five years of teaching and/or coaching experience.  Administrative experience preferred.
  • Master’s degree preferred

While performing the duties of this job- the employee is frequently required to walk- sit- talk- and hear.  The employee is frequently required to stand and reach with hands and arms.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision- distance vision- depth perception- and the ability to adjust focus.  The employee is required to interact with staff and to meet demands from several people.  The employee is responsible for the work output of others.  On occasion- the employee may be required to work extended hours.

 

Performance Responsibilities: 

 

  • Organizes and administers the overall student athletic/activities program pursuant to Board and KSHSAA policies.
  • Initiates the recruitment and selection of coaches and makes employment recommendations to the building principal.
  • Supervises and evaluates all coaches at the high school level.
  • Schedules all high school athletic contests- issues contracts for the contest- and maintains the proper and necessary records.
  • Ensures officials are scheduled and contracts are issued for all high school contests.  Maintains an active file of officials under contract and pays officials following the contract.
  • Arranges transportation for practices and all away high school contests.
  • Supervises high school athletic contests and acts as the host to officials and visiting schools.  Oversees the supervision of contest employees and volunteers who work the athletic contest.  Arranges for personnel to supervise contests as needed.
  • Supervises athletic funds- prepares and administers a detailed operating budget for the athletic program and submits it to the building principal.  Orders all equipment and maintains a current inventory of all athletic equipment.
  • Advises and ensures all coaches conform with Board- KSHSAA- league policies and regulations- and state and federal laws.  Attends league and district meetings.  Ensures all coaches have successfully completed required inservice programs.
  • Supervises and is responsible for preparation for home contests.
  • Provides leadership for and serves as liaison to high school athletic booster groups and coordinates- with the coaches- the support group for specific athletic programs.
  • Develops and implements appropriate rules and regulations for conduct at high school events.
  • Assigns supervision for home and away games.
  • Assigns workers for home events.
  • Monitors and maintains athletic equipment and uniform inventory.
  • Monitors field maintenance.

General Responsibilities:

  • NCAA Clearinghouse Manager for the high school.
  • Oversees and supervises trainer duties and responsibilities
  • Manages student physicals
  • Establishes and distributes the Students Not in Good Standing Lists for coaches and sponsors
  • Supervises all ticket sales and school passes utilized at the high school

Terms of Employment:

9 months; salary and work year to be determined by the Board of Education.

 

Evaluation:

Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board policy on evaluation of Support Service Personnel.
