Athletic Coordinator

Position Function: To assist the building administrator with the routine operations of the school's academic and activity programs.

Essential Performance Responsibilities:

  • Participates in activities which promote understanding and cooperation with all members of the administrative team
  • Submits timely and accurate reports as requested
  • Assists with the identification of priorities and long-range educational needs in areas of assigned responsibility
  • Assists in the recruiting and interviewing candidates for the instructional and non-instructional staff
  • Assists to assign teachers within area of maximum capabilities and to achieve best possible educational environment for children
  • Initiates programs and organization within the adopted course of study
  • Assists in analyzing the effectiveness of curriculum and where indicated, recommends changes and in-service curricular activities
  • Submits reports reflecting curriculum plans and progress
  • Helps to compile attendance reports and records as necessary
  • Works closely with central office personnel and custodial staff to coordinate effective building use by outside groups
  • Assists in organizing and administering the full range of extra-curricular activities within the school
  • Prepare a monthly newsletter and mail to staff, parents and patrons
  • Provide supervisory assistance at athletic events as requested by the building administrator
  • Supply any information for reports about the activity program(s)
  • Maintain a record of all written complaints about the athletic program and an accurate record of responses to the complaints
  • Prepare schedules of all athletic and activity programs for the principal's approval
  • Monitor the scholastic eligibility of student participants in activity programs pursuant with KSHSAA and local regulations
  • Maintain records of parent permission slips, health insurance documents and student participant physical forms
  • Notify all involved parties of cancellation of activities due to inclement weather
  • Prepare lists of game officials, who have agreed to game assignments, for review and approval of the district administrator prior to sending out contracts

Additional Duties: Assists with additional duties as assigned.

Equipment: This position may require the ability to use SMART boards and iPads in addition to basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machine. Must always comply with WPS guidelines for equipment use.

Travel: Limited travel between schools and central offices may be required.

Physical and Mental Demands:

  • Ability to perform all tasks and work the hours required
  • Ability to work overtime on short notice may be required
  • Daily schedule may fluctuate to accommodate deadlines
  • Attendance at meeting and in-services are required
  • Must be able to walk long distances,
  • Stand for long periods of time

  • Ability to communicate both verbally and written in order to communicate with others inside and outside of the organization for the purpose of giving and obtaining information
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a Supervisor when their discretion is needed
  • Ability to perform as an effective team player
  • Ability to plan, organize, make decisions and prioritize work to meet the daily demands of the building
  • Exhibit a professional manner and a positive attitude
  • Use good judgment to make decisions on recurring assignments
  • Display a significant degree of professionalism and confidentiality

Interrelations:

  • Contact with personnel within the district and with customers and vendors
  • Will be working under the direct supervision of the department supervisor in order to complete day to day tasks
  • Will be working with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy
  • Must understand and respond appropriately to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues
  • Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly, professional manner and provide quick, responsive customer service

Employee Punctuality and Appearance:

  • In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave
  • Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee's supervisor or building administrator
  • All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of USD 259 and is appropriate for their position

Qualification Profile:

  • This position requires a high school diploma or GED
  • Administrator certification at the appropriate level(s)
  • Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable
