Purpose:
The purpose of an instructional coach is to assist teachers in improving instruction
(implementation of effective, research-based instructional strategies) so that gains in
student achievement are realized.
Qualifications:
? Bachelors Degree in Education and valid Kansas teaching license
? Success as a classroom teacher
? Knowledge of content standards, effective instructional practices, and
assessments
? Experience with professional development and working with groups of educators
? Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
Reports to:
Assistant Superintendent of Elementary and Secondary Education
Responsibilities:
? Model enthusiasm, commitment and intensity for the district instructional
practices, programs, and initiatives
? Serves as a resource to interims teachers for the purpose of providing support
and guidance as needed based on their knowledge and experience
? Assists interims
? Visit classrooms on a regular basis to:
o Encourage, model instruction, support and monitor interims in the
implementation of the content and strategies presented as part of the
school/district improvement process
o Demonstrate strategies interims can be using to accelerate student
learning
o Observe and problem solve with interims on how to overcome student
learning obstacles
? Engages in professional learning as needed and directed in order to remain
knowledgeable and current in the latest and most effective teaching practices
? Provide instruction to interims in the use of a variety of instructional strategies
and technologies
? Consult with district and building administration, building instructional coach and
the interims mentor for the purpose of serving as a liaison and resource,
identifying the staff development needs of interims
? Prepares a variety of reports and documentation for the purpose of providing
information on the status and progress of interims pursuit of a teaching degree
? Provide interims support and resources in the process of pursuing a teaching
degree
? Performs other related duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent
Physical Requirements
? Requirements may include prolonged sitting or standing, physical exertion to
manually move, lift, carry, pull or push heavy objects or materials, climbing
stairs, stooping, bending and reaching
Evaluation
? Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the negotiated
agreement
