High School Industrial Technology Teacher

Position Purpose:
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, students will develop an understanding of industrial technology practices, demonstrate, and apply safe, practical production processes with hand/power tools and machinery; communicate using oral, written and graphical modes; organize, calculate and plan production processes; and evaluate the products they create using pre-defined specifications.

Essential Functions:

  1. Teaches skills and knowledge in one or more courses in skilled mechanical crafts, carpentry, and woodworking or general shop to secondary students.
  2. Develops and administers industrial technology education curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
  3. Addresses specific educational needs of individual and small groups of students by creating a flexible, safe, and optimal learning environment.
  4. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize the available time for instruction
  5. Prepares appropriate instructional aids and display materials to enhance learning.
  6. Demonstrates industrial materials, equipment, tools, and processes using standard or teacher-prepared models, mock-ups, sketches, and other instructional aids.
  7. Instructs students in the use of eye protection and safety guards, and in the use, care and safe operation of tools, machines, and equipment.
  8. Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student`s needs, including students with special needs.
  9. Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings, or by conducting research, and by maintaining professional relationships with members of the business community.
  10. Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
  11. Encourages parental involvement in students` education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
  12. Ensures that student conduct conforms with the school`s standards and school district policies and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  13. Coordinates with other professional staff members and participates in faculty meetings and committees.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
  2. Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  3. Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
  4. Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  5. Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  6. Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  7. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

Salary is based on educational level and years of experience for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year.
