Qualifications:                        

                *Masters Degree from an accredited college/university. 

                *Current Kansas Speech Pathologist Licensure with endorsement appropriate to the assignment on file in the Devin Center. 

                *Health certificate on file in Devin Center

                *Experience preferred, but not required

 

Reports To:                             Executive Director of Special Education

                                                Building Principal

 

BASIC FUNCTION/PURPOSE     

To provide individually designed instruction to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities to insure that students have access to and/or benefit from participation in the general education curriculum and special education services. In order to respond to the individual needs and abilities of students, the Speech/Language Pathologist must work closely with the staff and administration of the school district.

               The employee performing the duties of this position is frequently required to walk, sit, talk, hear, bend, stoop, and reach.  The employee may be occasionally required to manually lift, move, or carry up to 50 pounds.  The employee is required to interact with staff and meet the demands of several different people.  The employee is responsible for the work output of others.  The employee occasionally works extended hours.  Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Support the mission and vision of Geary County Schools.
  2. Collaborate with staff to effectively utilize assessments and other data in the strategic identification of students to be served.
  3. Communicate effectively with administrators, parents, staff, and community organizations with regard to student progress/needs. Contribute to department/team meetings in support of student learning needs.
  4. Help to facilitate assessments used to determine levels of performance; assist with flexible grouping; design instruction appropriate to individual needs; and communicate progress to classroom teachers.
  5. Provide targeted, prescriptive instruction to identified students.
  6. Stay abreast of new technologies to facilitate and support student learning, data management, and communication.
  7. Uphold and enforce board policy, administrative procedures, and school rules/regulations.
  8. Assist teachers in the implementation of curricular modifications, accommodations, and classroom strategies.
  9. Interact with students, parents, and staff in a professional manner demonstrating acceptance of individual differences, patience, and sensitivity.
  10. Participate in staff, department, and committee/team meetings; contribute to MTSS/IEP activities.
  11. Respect the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics, and state and federal laws.
  12. Help to sustain the profession by supervising student teachers, observers, paraeducators, clinical fellows, and aides.
  13. Obtain instructional resources and materials through processes outlined by the principal.
  14. Maintain a safe and well-organized instructional space.
  15. Respond to change in a productive manner.
  16. Strive to communicate the positive aspects of our school program to the public in word and deed.
  17. Travel to and between district buildings as needed.
  18. Maintain student data logs and records and submit logs in a timely manner for the purposes of Medicaid reimbursement.
  19. Other duties as assigned by the principal and or district administration.

 

Term of Employment:               Teacher Contract + 4 additional days

 

Salary Range:                           Determined by placement on teacher salary schedule.

                                                 Additional days beyond the contract year will be compensated according to the negotiated agreement in effect

 

Evaluation Frequency:               Job performance will be evaluated in accordance with state regulations and the terms established in the negotiated agreement
