District Technology Coordinator 

QUALIFICATIONS:          

1.      Bachelors degree preferred

2.      Network administrator certificate preferred

3.      Two years of experience in network management preferred

4.      Strong understanding of technology applications and how they are used in a classroom.

5.      Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable.

 

REPORTS TO:                    

Superintendent.

 

JOB GOAL: 

1.      Maintain current and accurate inventory of all technology hardware and software using the DataTeam data base.

2.      Provide up-to-date and timely information on new technology and software.

3.      Research and report educational applications of new technology, including hardware and software.

4.      Maintain and repair all district technology including the wireless network, computers, server, and other hardware.

5.      Monitor internet use and report concerns to the Superintendent.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.      Perform network management functions

2.      Ensure prescribed service-quality objectives are met

3.      Identifies and resolves complex voice and/or data communications network problems; arranges for vendor support if necessary.

4.      Understanding of IP Telephony solutions with respect to network design characteristics and related configuration of hardware and end-user devices

5.      Knowledge of current computer, component, and network security systems and techniques in order to prepare for such attacks and recommend new techniques and methods of defense.

6.      Keep the network (and the services that the network provides) up and running smoothly. It includes monitoring the network to spot problems as soon as possible, ideally before users are affected.

7.      Keep track of resources in the network and how they are assigned, including all the "housekeeping necessary to keep the network under control.

8.      Perform repairs and upgrades

9.      Research and evaluate voice and/or data software and hardware, services and other communications equipment; applies hardware and software release upgrades; recommends improved and most efficient hardware, software, and procedures.

10.  Maintain the server, including software security patches, operating system updates, performance tuning, log analysis, application updates and bug fixes.

11.  Develop communication network plans and strategies including standards, current and future network topology, and capacity planning.

12.  Validate new technologies proposed for use.

13.  Install and/or coordinate equipment installation.

14.  Assists in short and long term planning including the development of strategic plans to leverage emerging technology to support future enterprise needs.

15.  Meets with vendors to hold product demonstrations and to resolve communication network issues.

17.  Purchase and oversees all software.

18.  Keep Licensing up to date

19.  Work with principals, department heads, teachers, and others who will help implement the district technology plan.

20.  Understand the district budget, budgeting process, and spending process, and work within this system to secure adequate resources for instructional computing.

21.  Help to ensure that school-level budgets and the district budget adequately support the district's instructional technology plan.

22.  Be especially aware of equity issues when doing budgeting and distributing resources.

23.  Work with administration and faculty to write grants for implementation of technology related educational programs.

24.  Other duties as assigned by the board and the superintendent.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Twelve-month year.

Salary to be established by the USD 310 Board of Education.

Job performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the USD 310 policy on evaluation of non-certified personnel.

USD 310 Fairfield is a rural school district located in western Reno County. Beginning with the 2010-2011 school year all USD 310 students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12 attend class at the Fairfield Campus, one mile north of Langdon, Kansas. Fairfield is a large 1A school district that offers a variety of programs for its students. The district funds an afterschool program for elementary and middle school students and offers a variety of activities for students ranging from FFA to FADD.
