Greenbush Virtual Academy is looking for a licensed school counselor to serve as an academic advisor for one of our regional programs serving Kansas schools. The Academic Advisor will assist in the coordination of all aspects of the virtual program with partner school districts while providing advisement to students.

Minimum licensure requirement for this position is Kansas Teacher Licensure in any content area with a minimum of two years of teaching experience. Preference will be given to candidates who have a school counseling or administrative endorsement and/or similar experiences.

Job Summary: Responsible for assisting in the day-to-day management and operation of the Greenbush Virtual Academy (GVA). He/She will assist with the promotion of the program as well as related reports. He/She serves as an educational resource person. The Academic Advisor will be assigned a group of students with whom they will work with GVA teachers and district staff to facilitate student learning and success.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

A valid drivers license is required for employment. REAL ID is required if air travel is necessary to complete job duties.

  1. Bachelors degree in Education
  2. Valid Kansas teaching license at the secondary level
  3. Proficient in verbal and written communication, and principles of supervision, and have above-average computer skills.
  4. Knowledgeable in the curricular content area(s) and able to work with students of diverse needs.

Preferred: 

  1. Masters degree in the field of education.
  2. Minimum two years of teaching experience.
  3. Prior teaching experience in online/virtual curriculum.
  4. Experience at the secondary or post-secondary level as an academic/career advisor.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Functions:

  1. Monitor the GVA enrollment process including the completion of appropriate enrollment documents for assigned district partner students.
  2. Visit with district staff to ascertain student needs and specific student concerns if any, including course customization.
  3. Monitor student enrollment in Edgenuity or Florida Virtual and provide the Enrollment Coordinator with future courses for High School and Middle School level students based on their Individual Plans of Study.
  4. Provide elementary-level student information to appropriate grade-level teachers if available.
  5. Conduct general information orientation sessions with High School and Middle School students and parents if available.
  6. Conduct regular student goal-oriented meetings for High School and Middle School level students.
  7. Keep documentation of student and parent contacts information in student records for all students.
  8. Develop and maintain student record files in designated locations for all grade-level students.
  9. Consistently and routinely contact appropriate district personnel and parents about student attendance and progress along with any concerns expressed by the students academic team.
  10. Document weekly communications with district personnel in established communication logs and/or HubSpot to meet KSDE requirements.
  11. Consistently and routinely consult with the students academic team regarding student progress and concerns.
  12. Develop and monitor academic intervention plans for students who become disengaged or experience academic struggles. 
  13. Conduct at least two formal parent/academic coach conferences per school year for High School and Middle School level students. The conferences may also include other members of the student's academic team. The conference may be student-driven. The spring conference will include pre-enrollment if appropriate for the following school year.
  14. Maintain student data as requested and provide GVA administration with FTE count data when requested.
  15. Initiate student drop procedures following established policies and procedures for students who meet established criteria.
  16. Depending on district assistance, develop and/or become familiar with student transcript analysis for High School level students.
  17. Develop and/or update student graduation plan/individual plan of study including a timeline for course completions for High School level students.
  18. Attend regular GVA staff meetings and in-services.
  19. Participate in GVA curricular committee(s) as requested.
  20. Reliable, and punctual; completes duties promptly, accurately, and according to timelines.
  21.  Facilitate virtual student events, such as college fairs, FAFSA meetings, etc.

General Responsibilities:

1. Maintain timely documentation.

2. Support the mission, goals, and objectives of the Southeast East Kansas Education Service Center (SEKESC).

3. Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills.

4. Maintain strict confidentiality as outlined by FERPA and HIPAA.

5. Ability to work alone and in groups to provide services.

6. Maintain professional relationships with families.

7. Assume responsibility for individual professional growth by staying current with literature, research, and/or practices.

8. Demonstrate proficiency in the ability to effectively and regularly communicate with other employees of the SEKESC and constituents.

9. Complete all assignments in a timely manner including communication with other staff and families.

10. Follow all safety requirements as directed by the SEKESC.

11. Regular and predictive attendance in the designated work location as determined by the Executive Director or designee.

12. Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or designee.

  8. Being exposed to work settings that offer a risk to personal security and that are not ADA compliant.
