Description

The school social worker assists students with social and emotional learning based on existing need as a related service for students with an IEP. Service to students is typically through direct therapy to support school and social success, but also part of a problem-solving and intervention team for students.

 

Essential Responsibilities

  1. Provide social work/counseling services through direct, group or consult services.
  2. Manage evaluations, goals, and appropriately enter and exit students with minutes on the IEP for Social Work (SW) or Counseling services.
  3. Maintain a schedule that ensures all students are receiving social work/counseling services based on IEP.
  4. Attend annual IEPs, placements, evaluations, or manifestations and participate as an active IEP team member for all students as assigned, including behavior meetings and consultation for SEL of students; which includes writing social emotional goals for IEPs when needed.
  5. Identify and utilize evidence based practices to increase academic and social/emotional success.
  6. Promote and support students’ feelings of physical safety and connectedness to the school.
  7. Provides services that demonstrate respect for diverse (e.g. race, ethnicity, disability, faith, sexual orientation) populations.
  8. Provides a variety of methods and techniques to address problems encountered by students, while ensuring fidelity of programs and services
  9. Active participant in STARS.
  10. ADT (Autism Diagnostic Team) member which includes but not limited to classroom observations and screening, autism diagnostic evaluations with a team, and recommendations/consultations to providers.
  11. Implement crisis intervention, if required, to a student on caseload.
  12. Present to school staff regarding SEL, de-escalation, NME, mental health and other topics as requested.
  13. Provide consultation as requested by administrators or staff regarding SEL or mental health.
  14. Participate in SIT as requested by school or in regards to SEL for a specific student.
  15. Prepares a wide variety of written materials (e.g. activity logs, correspondence, memos, intervention strategies, Medicaid billing, reports, required documentation, etc) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and conveying information.
  16. Identify, understand and initiate state statutes, district expectations, and national standards in the area of social work and special education.
  17. Other essential functions: Energetic, caring, leadership skills, communication skills, ability to collaborate.
  18. Perform other duties, as assigned.

 

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions

  1. Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
  2. Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
  3. Occasional stooping, bending, and reaching.
  4. Must be able to work in a variety of noisy and crowded environments.
  5. Must be able to demonstrate effective organizational skills and work with a deadline.
  6. Maintain a valid driver’s license and be able to operate a vehicle. Travel and driving are job requirements.

Other General Responsibilities

  1. Participate in staff meetings.
  2. Participate in School Psychologist team meetings.
  3. Demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships with others.
  4. Maintain appropriate, confidential records and provide timely reports.
  5. Keep abreast of new supports for students.
  6. Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills.
  7. Maintain a positive attitude.
  8. Assist in general office functions, as needed, in an effort to provide continuity in office operations.
  9. See that Interlocal policies are observed during all activities.
  10. Identify and report child abuse, neglect, & suicidal ideation.
  11. Actively seek out learning opportunities to expand knowledge regarding best practices and remain up to date regarding SEL for schools in the area.
  12. Maintain license (see Qualifications).
  13. Obtain advance approval for inservice training, as required.
  14. Adhere to all district and Interlocal health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
  15. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.

Qualifications

  • Social Worker (preferred), School Psychologist, School Counselor
    1. Social Worker: (a)  Must hold a current and valid license to practice social work in the state of Kansas, issued by the Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board &  (b) Masters degree required (LMSW) or Clinical Specialist (LSCSW) level.  Can bill Medicaid.
    2. School Psychologist: (a) Must hold a current and valid license through KSDE as a licensed School Psychologist & (b) understands the job description is not a typical school psychologist job role & (c) may also be responsible for School Psychology Job Description. Can bill Medicaid.
    3. School Counselor: (a) Must hold a current and valid license through KSDE as a licensed school counselor. Cannot bill Medicaid.

Salary is based on School Psychologist salary schedule.

Salary Information

Based on School Psychologist/Social Worker Salary Schedule, ranging from $52,652-$73,000. Beginning salary is based on educational background and experience in the field of teaching. Our salary schedule is posted on our website - www.tricounty607.com in About Us/Employment.

Support for New Teachers

Tri-County Interlocal No. 607 and the Tri-County Interlocal Teachers Association jointly recognize the value of a mentor program. The purpose of this mentoring is to provide teachers an opportunity to develop new skills, be provided with staff development that is meaningful and job specific, provide training and support, and enhance the skills a teacher may already possess.

We believe that by providing a teacher the chance to grow, the result will be better prepared teachers. These educators, in turn, will be able to provide students with the best instruction possible.

 

Tuition Assistance Opportunity

Tri-County employees are eligible for up to 6 hours of tuition assistance per year, specifically to assist waivered and provisional staff to meet the requirements for a "highly qualified" endorsement or to assist individuals who are pursuing an endorsement in an area of need defined by the Interlocal. An additional 3 hours of assistance may be approved if the fund has not been exhausted at the end of the school year.
