School Social Worker (2023/2024 School Year)

Job Description

 

Purpose: The School Social Worker provides comprehensive services to students- parents- and school staff in an effort to address barriers that limit students from receiving full benefits from their educational experience. The School Social Worker serves as a link between home- school- and community by providing direct student services and assisting families in accessing appropriate community resources. Additionally- they support students` social and emotional health while fostering academic achievement through promoting lifelong resilience.

 

Reports To: Building Principal(s) and Director of Special Services

 

FLSA Status: Exempt- Salaried  

 

Salary: 187-day contract plus 2 additional contract days- based on Negotiated Agreement Salary Schedule

 

Required Qualifications:  

  • Licensed Social Worker by the Behavioral Science Regulatory Board in the State of Kansas.
  • Master’s degree in Social Work from an accredited college/university
  • Possession of a valid Kansas driver’s license
  • Knowledge of the federal- state- local legislation- regulations- policies- and procedures that mandate and guide behavior therapy practices
  • Ability to interpret evaluation data and write comprehensive reports
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate respectively and compassionately to a child and their family
  • Ability to document in accordance with professional standards and state and local guidelines
  • A high level of professionalism and decorum.
  • Highly organized and detail orientated
  • The desire to continue career improvement by enhancing skills and job
  • Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the District Office (after an employment offer is made)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of three years successful experience as a School Social Worker or demonstration of qualities consistent with a Master Social Worker

Essential Functions:  To perform this job successfully- an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.

  • Assesses student and family needs for the purpose of developing and implanting individuals plans of services to support educational objectives in the general education and special education settings
  • Provides effective counseling to students and parents
  • Administers psycho-social and behavioral assessment and diagnosis
  • Makes referrals to public or private agencies with appropriate follow-up
  • Serves as a liaison between school- family- and community resources
  • Serves as a source of information regarding community resources
  • Updates and maintains appropriate- confidential school records and provides written reports and communications
  • Understands and has knowledge of potential services available to students and parents and proper processes for requesting such services
  • Coordinates activities between school and with a variety of outside services agencies (e.g.- mental health- medical- etc.) for the purpose of providing referrals for families and/or students
  • Ability to think outside the box and develop plans and identify services to best serve and meet a student’s individual needs
  • Proactively plans and prepares student supports that are utilized throughout the day
  • Organizes and provides individual and group therapy
  • Proactively schedules parent conferences- visits- and shares information pertaining to the student
  • Able to assess a student- and provide support and assistance to a student- after an incident has occurred
  • Participate in multi-tiered system of supports and restorative practices to support students’ well-being
  • Develop- participate- and deliver district-wide professional development
  • Willing to travel locally using own transportation (mileage reimbursed)- which includes the ability to conduct home visits as a method to access the family and lead interviews in response to school referrals
  • Maintains case records for the purpose of documenting activities and complying with mandated reporting and requirements
  • Preforms other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the safety and well-being of students and others in the school setting
  • Regular attendance at work

  • Other duties as assigned by the Principal or other Administrative Staff

Evaluation:  Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions Negotiated Agreement.

The Fort Leavenworth School District has been a part of the educational system of the State of Kansas since 1901.  Geographically, it is composed entirely of federal property and includes Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery and the U. S. Federal Penitentiary.  The buildings, which belong to the school district, are located on land leased from the federal government.  We are a Kansas Public School System.  We do not have any connection with the Department of Defense Dependent School System.  The district provides instruction for grades K - 9 in addition to half day preschool for 4 year olds meeting current residency requirements.    The post schools operate under the provisions of Kansas State Law, applicable federal laws, and regulations of the U. S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare.

Commitment to quality and success for every student are hallmarks of the school district.  Children in the Fort Leavenworth Schools have benefited greatly from the support of a community that places a premium on quality education for its young people.

District facilities consist of four schools, and one central administration building.  The district also has a warehouse and transportation center.  All schools in the district have been extensively renovated and all life safety features upgraded.  All schools have at least the following:  auditorium, gymnasium, full service kitchen, cafeteria, technology classrooms, two computer labs, separate art and music rooms and a full service library media center.  All schools are maintained in excellent condition.
