Qualification Profile: State of Kansas certification as a School Psychologist

The School Psychologist is responsible to the building administrators and the Director of DCEC.  The School Psychologist assist students, teachers and parents in enabling students to derive the fullest potential educational experience by promoting positive self-esteem and resilience and providing suggested methods and plans for overcoming psychological or mental health concerns.  The School Psychologist is a resource to the building with behavior and academic supports.

Essential Performance Responsibilities:

Ø  Conducts psychological assessments, testing and diagnostic examinations of students for the purpose of recommending courses of action or corrective procedures to maximize learning and overcoming psychological issues

Ø  Assists with the identification and placement of all types of exceptional students.

Ø  Monitor identification rate to ensure proper identification and services

Ø  Serve as a resource and consultant on mental health and child psychology, conduct in-service programs as requested.

Ø  Encourages parental involvement in students education and ensures effective communication with students and parents

Ø  Selects and requisitions appropriate testing materials, books, aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.

Ø  Aid staff in the design and implementation of appropriate interventions and accommodations for students.

Ø  Participate on the SIT teams within each district

Ø  Consults with building principals regarding needs of special education students.

Ø  Provides information to parents regarding the referral/assessment process, special education services and their rights relative to special education

Ø  Provides Professional Development/training to staff, parents and community

Ø  Provide Supervision to Practicum and Interns
