*Current Kansas Teaching Certificate with Special Education endorsement appropriate to the assignment on file in the Devin Center
*Health certificate on file in Devin Center
*3-5 years teaching experience preferred, but not required

Supervises:                               Students K-12, Interpreters, and Paraprofessionals
 
BASIC FUNCTION/PURPOSE
 
To provide each student that is Visually Impaired requiring special education with an instructional program that will enable him/her to receive a free and appropriate education.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Meets certification requirements as established by the Kansas State Department of Education.
  2. Meets highly qualified criteria as established by Kansas State Department of Education
  3. Is eligible for categorical aid reimbursement.
  4. Proven capabilities in area(s) indicated as performance responsibilities.
  5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. 

JOB GOAL:   To provide each student that is Visually Impaired requiring special education with an instructional program that will enable him/her to receive a free and appropriate education.
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

            The employee performing the duties of this position is frequently required to walk, sit, talk, hear, bend, stoop, and reach.  The employee may be occasionally required to manually lift, move, or carry up to 50 pounds.  The employee is required to interact with staff and meet the demands of several different people.  The employee is responsible for the work output of others.  The employee occasionally works extended hours.  Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Support the philosophy and vision of exceptional services in the Geary County School District.
  2. Provides an individualized instructional program for each student that is Visually Impaired consistent with his/her needs and abilities.
  3. Assists in screening, evaluating, and recommending programs for students that are Visually Impaired.
  4. Coordinates and supervises work experience and on-the-job training programs involving the Visually Impaired.
  5. Assists the Director of Special Education in the evaluation, development, and improvement of the instructional activities designed for students that are Visually Impaired.
  6. Review IEP and Evaluation files to ensure that they meet all regulatory and district standards, are written to reflect best practice, reflect high quality programming and are implemented with integrity.
  7. Submit all required documentation to the district office in a timely manner.
  8. Enter accurate data into the district student information system in a timely manner.
  9. Possess knowledge legal regulations governing our program.
  10. Utilize data to guide the focus of student IEPs and improve student achievement.
  11. Supervise, provide professional development, and coordinate the scheduling of Para Educators.
  12. Assist with the integration of exceptional students into the general education program.
  13. Keep informed regarding new technologies that facilitate and support student learning.
  14. Communicate clearly and accurately with administrators, staff, parents, students and agencies.
  15. Plan and implement transition services for students.
  16. Respect the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics, and state, and federal laws.
  17. Participate as a team member in the comprehensive evaluation, review, and re-evaluation process.
  18. Assist general education teachers in the development and implementation of universal design methods, curricular modifications, and appropriate classroom strategies.
  19.  Provide demonstration of effective teaching practices within the classroom. 
  20. Establish mentoring relationships among teachers to support inclusion activities.
  21. Intervene and provide support with discipline problems of exceptional students.  
  22. Oversee the collection, analysis and interpretation of evaluative data regarding exceptional students in general education settings.

Term of Employment:                Teacher Contract
 
Salary Range:                           Determined by placement on teacher salary schedule.
 
Evaluation Frequency:               Job performance will be evaluated in accordance with state regulations and the terms established in the negotiated agreement.
