Primary Purpose

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

Qualifications

Education/Certification(s)/License(s):

Bachelors degree from accredited university

Valid Kansas teaching license and endorsements as required for the position

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Competency in core academic subject assigned.

Competency in curriculum and instruction.

Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, including:

         Ability to speak clearly and audibly to various groups expressing ideas in a logical and forthright manner,

         Possess composition skills suitable for producing written communication for a variety of readers,

         Ability to quickly analyze a situation and provide prompt advice,

         Ability to manage job responsibilities while meeting established deadlines,

         Ability to work constructively, cooperatively, and professionally with others.

 

Experience:

Teaching, student teaching, or related work experience

 

Essential Job Functions

Duties/Responsibilities:

1.       Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of districts curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student needs.

2.       Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned and present subject matter according to standards established by the Kansas State Board of Education, board policies, and administrative regulations.

3.       Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.

4.       Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).

5.       Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.

6.       Plan, assign, and direct the work of any assigned instructional aide(s), paraeducator(s), and volunteer(s) and oversee completion.

7.       Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.

8.       Be a positive role model for students; support mission of school district.

9.       Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.

10.   Manage student behavior in accordance with student handbook and board policy.

11.   Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

12.   Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.

13.   Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.

14.   Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.

15.   Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.

16.   Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers and the KSDE Kansas Educator Code of Conduct.

17.   Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

18.   Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

19.   Other duties as assigned.

 

Mental Demands/Physical Requirement/Environmental Conditions:

1.       Requires the ability to maintain emotional control while under stress and in stressful situations.

2.       Requires the ability to frequently stand for prolonged periods of time.

3.       Requires the ability to walk frequently.

4.       Requires the ability to use standard office equipment including computer and peripherals and other instructional equipment for prolonged periods of time.

5.       Requires the ability to frequently use repetitive hand motions, including frequent keyboarding and mouse use.

6.       Requires the ability to frequently kneel/squat, bend/stoop, push/pull, twist, or reach.

7.       Requires the ability to frequently lift and carry items ____ lbs. or less.

8.       Requires the ability to work and concentrate in noisy and crowded environments.

9.       Requires the ability to work with frequent interruptions.

10.   Requires the ability to occasionally work outside with exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures.

11.   Requires timeliness and regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.
