REPORTS TO:     Middle/High School Principal

1.    PURPOSE OF POSITION: Administers, plans, organizes, schedules and manages a comprehensive secondary level activities program included but not limited to seventh through twelfth grades; implements, schedules, supervises, and coordinates instruction; provides classroom activities; evaluates students needs and performance and promotes interaction; assesses, maintains, coordinates and requisitions, facilities and equipment.

2.     ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:

a.            Administers, plans, organizes, schedules and manages all secondary athletic programs, organizes appropriate materials and provides learning environment for athletics.

1)       Directs and negotiates contracts with schools and officials for all school events.

2)      Assists with making coaching assignments and evaluates all head coaches and assistant coaches.

3)      Assigns officials to games when they have not been secured by the CPL & CPMSL Commissioner(s).

4)      Assigns and supervises faculty or other staff members to work at school activities.

5)       Works with and motivates all coaches to develop an effective athletic program.

6)      Monitors and supervises student athletic activities daily; checks on student academic progress.

7)      Teaches, trains and insures in-service participation and establishes procedures for activity programs.

8)       Keeps records and makes reports on all programs as required.

9)       Follows and insures that KSHSAA rules and regulations are enforced; develops local policies / regulations consistent with need and pertinent to the activities.

10)     Organizes and schedules all high school athletic contests and coordinates the activities schedules with all academic schedules; communicates and coordinates schedules with competing schools.

11)     Administers the athletic insurance program.

12)     Arranges transportation requests for activity events and coaches` meetings.

13)     Arranges overnight trips and secures economical rates.

14)    Supervises inventory and maintenance of all athletic equipment and develops a rotation plan for uniforms; prepares requisitions for purchasing athletic materials, supplies, and equipment.

15)     Contacts wide range of media opportunities for publicity and promotion of all activities, tournaments and events.

16)     Acts as a School Liaison with activity support groups.

17)     Oversees all financial obligations from the activity funds.

18)    Assists in supervising facilities usage by school, recreation and community organizations.

19)    Assures delivery of tickets and currency to faculty assistants, accounts for and deposits monies collected.

20)    Attends CPL & CPMSL meetings; home athletic events and administrative/Board meetings required.

b.           Assures well organized and responsive student oriented activities by monitoring instruction to include application of skills.

c.             Provides for multi-faceted evaluation of student performance and behavior; confer with staff member(s) involved.

d.            Interacts with faculty, principal, and community groups for planning pertinent and current activities.

e.             Supervises personnel assigned.

f.              Participates in personal professional growth activities and district in-service activities.

g.            Manages all job duties with mobility, agility, dexterity and focused observation to meet job standards of performance.

h.            Responsible to the building principal.

4.     POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: KSDE Building Leadership Certification.

5.      PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

a.            Must support district mission, goals and objectives.

b.            Must display a comprehensive physical education program which meets individual personal, social and intellectual needs.

c.             Must demonstrate ability to react to change productively while supporting and promoting the value of an education.

d.            Must demonstrate skills in administration, planning and organizing, leadership, school and community communication and interaction, coordination of programs, diplomacy, and counseling.

e.             Must demonstrate ability to implement personnel and disciplinary practices which assure a cohesive team effort among coaches and students.

f.              Must meet district safety requirements.

g.             Must have a plan for personal professional growth.

h.            Annual review performed annually by Supervisor.

i.              Activities subject to building principal`s approval.

6.       ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS:  As required by policy.

Cheney USD 268 is a rural district located 20 miles west of Wichita and 2 miles south of Highway 54. We are also located 7 miles south of Cheney Reservoir, a popular state park in this area. The City of Cheney is a community of roughly 2100 people. We are a 3A school district consisting of 3 attendance centers; Cheney Elementary School (PreK-5th Grade), Cheney Middle School (6-8th Grade) and Cheney High School (9-12th Grade), with a total enrollment of between 780 and 825 students. The community of Cheney recently passed a $15 million bond which we used to install a security system to each building, added on several new classrooms to accommodate new courses, added a baseball field for our growing baseball/softball teams and renovated our football field & bleachers. We`ve implemented a College Career Ready program which has been a huge success. We offer a wide variety of athletics, fine arts, and activities. We have a very progressive and supporting community, which has all the basic amenities;  Local grocery store, hardware store, several restaurants, banking, post office, medical clinic, fitness centers, hair/tanning salons, excellent recreation program, a beautiful eighteen-hole golf course, historical museum, and steady growth in new homes. We are the home of the Sedgwick County Fair each year.
