Qualifications:

  1. Building Administrator Certification (required)
  2. Administrative experience (preferred)

Reports to: Superintendent of Schools

Supervises: Staff members at the building level

Job Goal: To use leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills to promote the educational development of students.

Responsibilities:

  1. Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school.
  2. Implements all district programs to meet specific needs of the school.
  3. Keeps the superintendent informed of the schools activities successes and problems.
  4. Makes recommendations concerning the schools administration and instruction.
  5. Prepares and administers building budgets and supervises the buildings school finances.
  6. Supervises the maintenance of all required building records and reports.
  7. Prepares or supervises the preparation of reports, records, lists, and all other paperwork required or appropriate to the schools administration.
  8. Works with various members of the central administrative staff on school challenges.
  9. Keeps supervisor and District Management Team Liaison informed of events and activities of an unusual nature as well as routine matters related to the supervisors accountability.
  10. Interprets and enforces district policies and administrative regulations.
  11. Maintains active relationships with students and parents.
  12. Budgets school time to provide for the efficient conduct of school instruction and business.
  13. Schedules classes within established guidelines to meet student needs.
  14. Assists in the development, revision, monitoring, and evaluation of the curriculum.
  15. Supervises the counseling program to enhance individual student education and development.
  16. Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary, according to due process rights of students following district guide to administrative procedures.
  17. Establishes guides for proper student conduct and maintaining student discipline.
  18. Attends special events held to recognize student achievement, and attends school-sponsored activities, functions, and athletic events.
  19. Supervises the maintenance of accurate records on the progress and attendance of students.
  20. Assumes responsibility of his or her own professional growth and development through membership and participation in the affairs of professional organizations; attendance at district, regional, state, and national meetings; and enrollment in advanced courses.
  21. Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field.
  22. Supervision and evaluation of all school building personnel, as assigned, following Master Agreement and Classified Staff Handbook.
  23. Supervises the schools teaching process to assure achievement for all students.
  24. Uses student achievement data to make decisions regarding the instructional program in school.
  25. Approve the master teaching schedule and any special assignments.
  26. Orients newly assigned staff members and assists in their development as appropriate.
  27. Evaluates and counsels all staff members regarding their individual and group performance.
  28. Conducts staff meetings to keep members informed of such things as policy changes and new programs.
  29. Assists in the in-service orientation and training of teachers, with special responsibility for staff administrative procedures and instructions.
  30. Recommends, according to established procedures, the removal of a teacher whose work is unsatisfactory and maintains all appropriate documentation following Master Agreement.
  31. Assumes responsibility for the safety and administration of the school plant.
  32. Supervisors the daily use of the school facilities for both academic and nonacademic purposes.
  33. Plans and supervises a crisis plan (fire drills, tornado drills, and an emergency preparedness program).
  34. Provides for adequate inventories of school property and for the security and accountability for that property.
  35. Supervises all activities and programs that are outgrowths of the schools curriculum.
  36. Supervises and evaluates the schools extracurricular program.
  37. Participates in principals meetings, negotiations meetings, and such other meetings as are required or appropriate.
  38. Serves as an officio member of all committees and councils within the school.
  39. Cooperates with college and university officials and central office staff regarding teacher training and preparation.
  40. Responds to written and oral requests for information.
  41. Assumes responsibility for all official school correspondence and news releases.
  42. Establishes and maintains relationships with local community groups and individuals to foster understanding and solicit support for overall school objectives and programs; to interpret Board policies and administrative directives; and to discuss and resolve individual student problems.
  43. Serves as a member of such committees and attends such meetings as directed by the superintendent.
  44. Delegates authority to responsible personnel to assume responsibility for the school in the absence of the principal.
  45. Collaborates with other principals in working toward the mission of the district and serves on district committees and task forces.

 

Essential Skills and Abilities:

  1. Ability to possess and maintain licensure (certification) as an administrator in the state of Kansas.
  2. Ability to speak clearly to various groups expressing ideas in a logical and forthright manner.
  3. Possess compositions skills suitable for producing written communication for a variety of readers.
  4. Ability to quickly analyze a situation and provide prompt advice.
  5. Ability to respond to information requests in a courteous, timely, and help manner.
  6. Ability to perform job responsibilities using appropriate software on district computer system and communication system.
  7. Ability to manage job responsibilities while meeting established deadlines.
  8. Ability to work constructively and cooperatively with others.
  9. Ability to travel as needed.

 

Salary Range: Salary range TBD plus fringe benefits

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Boards policy on Evaluation.

The tasks listed in this position description are subject to change at the discretion of the superintendent.  The incumbent is expected to take on other duties as requested or assigned by his/her supervisor.
