Title: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

 

Reports to: Administrator on site

 

Position Summary: The CNA provides  first aid and medications in addressing the health needs of students; assists students who require support with toileting; provides support or assistance in providing appropriate care for ill- medically fragile or injured students. 

 

Qualifications:

Required:

  1. Certified Medical Assistant or Certified Nursing Assistant with up to one year of applicable experience 
  2. The ability to use a Hoyer lift to assist students with transferring.
  3. CPR certification is required.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Assist students with mobility needs with lunch- toileting- and general  accessibility to the school environment.
  • Cleans clinic areas (e.g. sinks- counters- ) for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary environment. 
  • Maintains inventory of supplies for the purpose of ensuring availability as needed. 
  • Notifies nurse and/or principal of activities and/or incidents (e.g. suspected child abuse- suspected substance abuse- etc.) for the purpose of maintaining child`s personal safety- a positive home environment and adhering to state- district and/or school policies. 
  • Participates in meetings- workshops and professional development for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information- developing knowledge required to perform job functions and meet district 
  • Employ good communication and interpersonal skills- cultural competency/sensitivity- tactful language- and empathetic interviewing skills to build rapport and maintain trust with students and staff of varied backgrounds. 
  • Assure confidentiality and extend efforts to locate and communicate with staff and students in a manner that preserves the confidentiality and privacy of all involved. 
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Physical Requirements:  Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in the work environment. Regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job is required.

 

  1. Must occasionally work in noisy and crowded environments- with numerous
    interruptions.
    2. Must have physical stamina to maintain job responsibilities.
    3. Requires occasional stooping- bending- kneeling- reaching- and turning.

Term of Employment: Academic school year as assigned.

Basehor-Linwood Unified School District 458 serves students and families in a 90 square mile area of southern Leavenworth County, Kansas. We currently have 8 district attendance centers. Our Early Learning Center for Childcare and Pre-K opened for the 2020-21 school year in August. K-5 buildings are located in Bonner Springs, Basehor and the Glenwood Ridge subdivision. A new K-5 building, located in Basehor, opened in the Fall 2021. Students in grades 6, 7 and 8 attend Basehor-Linwood Middle School in Basehor, near the center of the district. Basehor-Linwood High School, located in Basehor, is a 5A school, serving students in grades 9 through 12. 

 

BLHS was named a 2012 National Blue Ribbon School. In addition, the district operates Basehor-Linwood Virtual School, an internet-based school serving approximately 250 K-12 students statewide instructed by Basehor-Linwood teachers.

 

Special Education services are provided by the Tonganoxie/Basehor-Linwood Special Education Cooperative located in Basehor.
