Job Description

Title: ESOL Teacher

Reports to: Building Principal

Supervises: Assigned students/assigned staff

Job summary:

To assist students with acquiring language by creating a flexible ESOL program and an environment favorable to learning and personal growth.

 

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in education with appropriate Kansas licensure.

ESOL Endorsement

 

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Send out- collect- and file notification/permission letters for all active and transition EL students.
  • Test new students as they enroll- score tests- and- if qualified- send out permission letters and start student folder.
  • Communicate student needs and progress with parents throughout the year.
  • Maintain a student folder for each EL- including home language survey- permission/notification form- program entrance testing with scores- current ILP- and any other state-required documentation.
  • Retain a copy of the entrance test score sheet and permission waiver for each new student in the program.
  • Plan and teach ESOL Standards-based lessons- differentiated to student’s language proficiency levels- that encompass all four domains.
  • Complete accurate ESOL minutes for each active student by the September deadline.
  • Complete ESOL Individualized Learning Plans (ILPs) for each active and transition year student by October deadline to maintain program compliance.
  • Complete the Monitor Documentation Form for each Monitor Status student by the end of each semester.
  • Communicate scaffolds and accommodations with other staff members (general education teachers- special education teachers- para-educators- etc.) regarding EL students.
  • Attend ESOL department training throughout the year (including KELPA assessment training).
  • Administer KELPA Assessment following all testing guidelines and procedures.
  • Assist in scoring locally scored portions of the KELPA Assessment.
  • Consult with other ESOL teachers- building administrators- and counselors (as relevant) about ELL student class/course placement for the following year.
  • Complete Exit documentation for each student meeting state-specified exit criteria.
  • Build positive rapport with students- parents- and other staff members.
  • Demonstrates effective human relations and communication skills.
  • Comply with good safety practices.
  • Comply with all district rules- regulations- and policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in a fast-pace- high-intensive work environment.
