We serve our student population through various educational programs and services ranging from Special Education to concurrent enrollment college courses with Allen Community College, 21 different pathway options, and targeted interventions.   

The school district provides preschool education to students at the newly renovated Humboldt Elementary School, along with K-5th grade students. Students in Grades 6, 7, and 8 attend Humboldt Middle School. Humboldt High School serves students in grades 9 through 12. Humboldt High School offers a comprehensive high school instructional program, including coursework identified for the Kansas Regent’s curriculum, concurrent class offerings with Allen Community College, a variety of elective course offerings, and a strong emphasis on Career and Technical Education courses. Students are encouraged and supported in internships during their senior year.  In addition to the regular school program, USD 258 offers a Virtual School Program.  The Virtual School is for students in grades 9-12 and adult learners.  Each of our instructional facilities received renovations focused on enhancing the space, safety, and maintenance of each building. 

Increasingly, within Humboldt, Allen County, and beyond, the district is being recognized as a learning community that exemplifies excellence and places a high priority on community and personalizing each student’s learning path. A large percentage of our students are involved in co-curricular and extracurricular activities providing for a well-rounded educational experience. The Humboldt Schools are known for their outstanding academic, fine arts, and athletic programs, as well as their caring teaching staff.  Humboldt Schools are small enough that each student can receive personalized time from teachers, on-site counselors, administrators, and support staff.  Students participating in academic, fine arts, and athletic programs are consistently at the top level at competitions.  Humboldt High School competes in the Tri-Valley League and is Class 3-A.  Humboldt High School also boasts State Championships in Basketball, Golf, Track, Powerlifting, FFA, and Journalism just to name a few.

Humboldt, located in Southeast Kansas in Allen County, sits halfway between Iola and Chanute on US 169 Hwy. Humboldt, in the middle of everywhere, is 115 miles east of Wichita, 110 miles southwest of Kansas City, 115 miles north of Tulsa, OK, and 100 miles northwest of Joplin, MO. Humboldt pairs the old-fashioned charm and grace with amenities typically found in large communities.  It is a community where kids can ride their bike to the local park and adults can spend Friday night listening to live music with their friends.       

George Sweatt Memorial Park, a newly updated swimming pool in Centennial Park, Veteran`s Memorial in the city square, a twelve-site civil war tour, and the elegant churches are just a few of the reasons why Humboldt is so attractive.Humboldt`s notable natives include Walter Johnson The Big Train,who won 417 games as a pitcher for the Washington Senators, and George Sweatt, a player for the Kansas City Monarchs.

The City of Humboldt operates the gas, water, sanitation, and trash pickup utilities. Westar Energy operates the electrical distribution system and has an office in Humboldt. The city has a highly regarded volunteer fire department and a professional police department with personnel on duty 24-hours a day. Ambulance service also provides 24-hour around the clock coverage for the community. Ashley Clinic provides medical professionals and a pharmacy to our community.

Recreation is a premier feature of our area with Camp Hunter, Cannon Park, Centennial Park, River Park, and Sweatt Park providing camping, baseball diamonds, tennis courts, sand volleyball, a walking trail, outdoor exercise equipment, and a newly updated city Aquatic Center. USD #258 Humboldt Schools also opened its new Community Field House in the summer of 2007, which has many opportunities for exercise. Patrons can utilize an indoor walking track, cardio room, and weight room. In 2013, the Humboldt School District built a sports complex that is state of the art. The football, baseball and softball diamond are turf. There is a nice track that is available to our patrons to walk or run on after school hours.
