JOB TITLE:            Athletic Director/ High School Assistant Principal

 

QUALIFICATIONS:             1)  Administrative Certification

                                                      2)  Possesses the ability to organize and maintain detailed records.

                                                      3)  Skills in managing a large database of information.

                                                      4)  Works well with people.

 

REPORTS TO:     Superintendent/High School Principal

 

SUPERVISES:       Coaches and Teachers

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (ATHLETIC DIRECTOR):

 

To provide each enrolled student of secondary school age an opportunity to participate in an extracurricular athletic activity that will foster physical skills, a sense of worth and competence, a knowledge and understanding of the pleasures of sport, and the principles of fair play.

  • Organizes and schedules the overall program of extracurricular athletics for the district.
  • Provides leadership in the selection, assignment, and evaluation of athletic coaches and staff members.
  • Fosters good school-community relations by keeping the community aware of and responsive to the athletic program.
  • Hires officials, team physicians, and security as required and shares general responsibility for the proper supervision of home games with building administrators.
  • Arranges transportation for athletic contest participants.
  • Develops and places into operation appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of athletic activities.
  • Monitors the verification of each athlete’s eligibility according to established physical and academic requirements of eligibility for participation in each sport at the middle school.
  • Prepares and administers the athletic program budget.
  • Requisitions preseason program supplies and equipment.
  • Administers the summer insurance program covering school athletes and assumes responsibility for all processing of reports and claims.
  • Keeps records of the results of all junior and senior high school athletic contests and maintains a records file of all award winners, stating the date and type of award.
  • Represents the district at the Big Seven League meetings.
  • Arranges for recruiting student help for all athletic events except for non-varsity football and volleyball games.
  • Initiates planning with building administrators for tournament and substate events.

 

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL):

 

To assist the High School Principal in providing supervision of school activities and athletic events.

  • Serves as principal in the absence of the building principal.
  • Assists with supervision of student activities and school events.
  • Assists in the conducting of safety inspections and safety drill practice activities.
  • Assists in coordinating transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other support services.
  • Performs such record-keeping functions as the principal may direct.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

 

Initial contract one year, subsequent contract for two years based on successful annual review.  Thirty (30) days of annual leave each year to be scheduled during the summer months at a time mutually agreed upon with the superintendent.  Salary and work year to be established by the Board.

 

EVALUATION:

 

Done by the Superintendent with input from the Director of Curriculum and Instruction and High School Building Principal on an annual basis as per district practice.

Salary Information

Salary range:  $78,000 - $84,000 based on experience.
