Behavioral Intervention Strategist
 
Purpose Statement

The job of Behavioral Intervention Strategist is done for the purpose/s of providing leadership and program coordination for a program providing assessment for the identification of "At-Risk" and/or "behaviorally challenged" students; and developing and implementing positive behavior support strategies based on Functional Behavior Assessments, Function Based Interventions and Behavior Intervention Plans.
 
This job reports to Building Administration.
 
Essential Functions

  • Assist staff in defining and measuring behavior (e.g. provides training and support in behavior assessment and management, facilitate team meetings, and due process hearings, etc.) for implementing Behavior Intervention Plans.
  • Conducts Behavioral Assessments and compiles and interprets students` assessment results (e.g. gathers information from parents, teachers and others, etc.) for assessing eligibility for intervention services.
  • Conducts conflict resolution and peer mediation sessions with students for developing behavior management skills.
  • Coordinate behavioral services with community organizations and agencies for supporting behavioral objectives.
  • Maintain a variety of manual and electronic files and/or records (e.g. program records, data compilation reports, etc.) for providing up-to-date reference and complying with regulatory requirements and established guidelines.
  • Monitor data, trends, and policies related to behavioral assessments and interventions (e.g. use of technology, improving instruction, etc.) for being knowledgeable on trends and changes and/or making recommendations related to research based instructional strategies.
  • Participate in meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars (e.g. IEP`s, parent teacher conferences, etc.) for representing the District at professional meetings and trainings related to social emotional learning and professional development.
  • Plan and directs services and activities for supporting the implementation of the behavioral intervention strategies.
  • Prepares a variety of program-mandated reports (e.g. narrative and statistical reports, records, files, etc.) for complying with program requirements.
  • Supervise and coordinates the implementation of program components for including the use of technology, strategies and methods of behavioral interventions.

 
Other Functions

  • Performs other related duties as assigned for ensuring the efficient and effective

functioning of the work unit.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
 
SKILLS are required to perform single, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include utilizing conflict resolution, self-regulation and related intervention techniques; operating standard office equipment including pertinent software applications; planning and managing projects; preparing and maintaining accurate records; applying curriculum and instructional techniques; comparing results; conducting meetings; counseling and mentoring employees; and facilitating meetings.
 
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions.  Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include concepts of grammar and punctuation; district policies and procedures; accounting
practices; business telephone etiquette; codes/laws/rules/regulations/policies; community resources; methods of instruction and training; practicing cultural competency while working collaboratively with diverse groups and individuals; and career technical education teacher preparation program standards.
 
ABILITY is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; routinely gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of varied types and/or purposes; and utilize job-related equipment. Independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include conduct studies and prepare reports on educational programs; perform behavioral assessments; develop and implement behavioral intervention plans; adapt to changing work priorities; communicate with diverse groups; set priorities; build collaborative relationships; work with constant interruptions; meet deadlines and schedules; work as part of a team; work with detailed information/data; and demonstrate leadership skills.
 
Responsibility
Responsibilities include working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; directing other persons within a small work unit; operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job`s functions. There is a continual opportunity to impact the organization’s services.
 
Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job`s functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, and some fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 60% sitting, 15% walking, and 25% standing.  This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
 
Experience: Job related experience is required.
 
Education: Master’s degree in job-related area.
 
Equivalency: Required experience includes at least five years of successful classroom teaching experience, preferably at the secondary level; successful experience in coordinating complex projects or programs including program evaluation.
