Title: Child Care Center Director

 

Reports to:  ELC Principal

 

Position Summary:   The Child Care Center Coordinator is responsible for maintaining a 

developmentally appropriate program providing general oversight to the Child Care Center of the Basehor-Linwood Early Learning Center (ELC).

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:                

  1. Monitors and supports instructional activities on a daily basis
  2. Provides and coordinates the adoption of research based curriculum materials and resources that are developmentally appropriate
  3. Plans and oversees programs and services designed to expand the availability of quality child care and education opportunities in the district
  4. Oversight on financial records of the child care center as required by state and federal funds
  5. Works in conjunction with the Early Childhood Coordinator- district staff and elementary principals to ensure consistent implementation of child care and pre-school facilities 
  6. Coordinates with the Early Childhood Coordinator to ensure a smooth transition from the child care center to the pre-kindergarten classroom
  7. Works with elementary faculty and administration on the periodic review of curriculum to ensure it is consistently aligned with state and national standards 
  8. Completes regular reporting of data on child outcomes- financial stability- and enrollment projections 
  9. Assists in the recruiting- interviewing- and selection of staff                               
  10. Ensures that all child care staff have the appropriate certifications and are compliant with required training for the role that they are selected for according to district and state guidelines. All staff must be certified by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE)
  11. Implements appropriate staff development and staff evaluation procedures necessary to ensure quality services for young children 
  12. Communicates with and provides effective feedback to parents and other adults to build positive relationships 
  13. Be an active listener and maintains a cooperative professional relationship with all stakeholders   
  14. Maintains medical- immunization records- and medications- and provide follow-up for students whom are ill or become ill 
  15. Works collectively with all stakeholders in hearing their concerns and ideas for the benefit of the students 
  16. Represents the Child Care Center of the ELC in the community
  17. Protects and enhances the safety of the children and staff of the Child Care Center at the ELC                                
  18. Maintains an inviting physical environment which fosters optimal growth and development 
  19. Performs all other duties as assigned

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Education
    1. Option 1: (A) Twelve semester hours of academic study or equivalent training in child development- early childhood education- curriculum resources- nutrition- child guidance- parent education- supervised practicum- and administration of early childhood programs; and (B) six months` teaching experience in licensed centers or preschools; 
    2. Option 2: A child development associate credential and one year of teaching experience in licensed centers or preschools- or supervised practicum in licensed centers or preschools; 
    3. Option 3: (A) An associate of arts degree or a two-year certificate in child development; and (B) one year of teaching experience in licensed centers or preschools- or a supervised practicum in licensed centers or preschools; 
    4. Option 4: (A) An A.B. or B.S. degree in child development or early childhood education- including a supervised practicum; and (B) three months` teaching experience in licensed centers or preschools; or 
    5. Option 5: (A) An A.B. or B.S. degree in a related academic discipline- and 12 hours of academic study or equivalent training in child development- early childhood education- curriculum resources- nutrition- child guidance- parent education- supervised practicum- and administration of early childhood programs; and (B) six months teaching experience in licensed centers or preschools. 
  2. Currently hold a Child Care Center Director License issued by the KDHE
  3. Experience implementing educational programs from infants to preschool aged children
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of methods of effective instruction
  5. Desire and ability to work with children and staff
  6. A willingness to cooperate with and follow the directions of the Early Childhood Coordinator
  7. The ability and willingness to communicate with parents
  8. Knowledge of effective methods of behavior modifications with students
  9. Ability to plan- organize- and see that activities are completed
  10. Proficient in data collection and reporting
  11. Excellent written and oral skills
  12. Proficient in Microsoft and Google applications      



Physical Requirements:  Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in the work environment. Regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job is required.

 

  1.     Must have physical stamina to maintain job responsibilities.
    2. Requires occasional stooping- bending- kneeling- reaching- and turning.

Term of Employment: 10 ½ months (210 Days); Academic school year as assigned.

Basehor-Linwood Unified School District 458 serves students and families in a 90 square mile area of southern Leavenworth County, Kansas. We currently have 8 district attendance centers. Our Early Learning Center for Childcare and Pre-K opened for the 2020-21 school year in August. K-5 buildings are located in Bonner Springs, Basehor and the Glenwood Ridge subdivision. A new K-5 building, located in Basehor, opened in the Fall 2021. Students in grades 6, 7 and 8 attend Basehor-Linwood Middle School in Basehor, near the center of the district. Basehor-Linwood High School, located in Basehor, is a 5A school, serving students in grades 9 through 12. 

 

BLHS was named a 2012 National Blue Ribbon School. In addition, the district operates Basehor-Linwood Virtual School, an internet-based school serving approximately 250 K-12 students statewide instructed by Basehor-Linwood teachers.

 

Special Education services are provided by the Tonganoxie/Basehor-Linwood Special Education Cooperative located in Basehor.
