Position Purpose:

Provide leadership in coordinating- managing- and monitoring the delivery of nursing services within the district. 

 

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program. Baccalaureate Degree or higher.
  • Current Kansas licensure as a registered professional nurse.
  • Minimum of two years administrative or supervisory experience in the health field.
  • Ability to direct others- communicate effectively and work independently within established guidelines.
  • Maintain confidentiality and good judgment in handling and dispersing information.
  • Demonstrate the ability to apply new concepts in a timely manner and adapt readily to change.
  • Possess initiative and creativity in developing and implementing interventions to improve nursing services for students attending the Topeka Public Schools.
  • Ability to evaluate health related situations and make appropriate decisions.
  • Possess a high degree of organizational skills along with the ability to work with a wide-range of disciplines.
  • Computer competence (Excel- Word)

 

Physical/Emotional Requirements:

The incumbent may be required to use the below requirements during any part of the working day. Speaking- hearing- visual- walking/mobility- consistency of temperament- ability to work with a variety of problems at the same time- stamina for working long hours and in stress producing environments.

 

Performance Responsibilities

  • Participate and collaborate with administrators in identification of qualified candidates- screening of applications- interview process- recommendation for hire- and orientation of nursing staff as needed.
  • Complete and/or provide input to the building principal or designee for nursing staff job performance evaluations.
  • Coordinate the daily delivery of nursing services to students.
  • Ensure clinics have necessary updated equipment and supplies to delivery nursing care.
  • Review list of student health concerns complied by nursing services staff.
  • Assist in writing and implementing nursing and medication care plans for identified students.
  • Monitor the delivery of nursing services and coordinate student health screenings to ensure compliance with legal requirements.
  • Provide assistance as necessary in managing communicable illness reporting.
  • Interact with administration- district staff- health care providers- students- and parents in a tactful and diplomatic manner to establish and maintain good rapport.
  • Assist the Director of Special Education in the development and implementation of the philosophy- objectives- goals- and budget for nursing services.
  • Coordinate and conduct departmental meetings- professional development and inservice training programs to provide opportunities for ongoing professional growth of nursing services staff.
  • Facilitate certification of nursing services staff and substitute nurse screeners in health related course work (e.g. First Aid- CPR/AED- Hearing).
  • Encourage nursing staff participation in conferences at the state and local level addressing a range of school health issues.
  • Coordinate the collection of data and complies accurate and complete annual reports as required by the district- national and state agencies.
  • Trend and analyze health related statistical data for the improvement of nursing services.
  • Participate in local- state- and national meetings relative to the field of health services.
  • Serve as a resource individual for the district staff- parents- professional organizations- and community agencies.
  • Develop- update- and implement nursing services written policies and procedures.
  • Assume responsibility for professional growth and keep skills up-to-date.
  • Model non-discriminatory practices in all activities.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

            12 month

 

EVALUATION:

            Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance to the provisions of the

            Administrative Evaluation System.
