BASIC FUNCTION/PURPOSE

 

The teacher of English Language Learners will deliver the district’s program for teaching English to students acquiring the English language in the context of the K-12 academic curriculum at one or more schools.

            The employee performing the duties of this position is frequently required to walk, sit, talk, hear, bend, stoop, and reach.  The employee may be occasionally required to manually lift, move, or carry up to 50 pounds.  The employee is required to interact with staff and meet the demands of several different people.  The employee is responsible for the work output of others.  The employee occasionally works extended hours.  Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Identify and screen students who speak or understand two or more languages.
  2. Complete required state and district paperwork on ELL students.
  3. Provide building principals and the ELL coordinator with updates on ELL students.
  4. Monitor language and academic progress of individual ELL students.
  5. Serve as a resource to classroom teachers in modifying lessons for ELL students.
  6. Serve as a communication link between school and home.
  7. Participate on building teams identifying special needs of ELL students.
  8. Provide training and supervision to aides and volunteers serving ELL students.
  9. Coordinate/provide building in-service on English Language Learners.
  10. Provide direct instruction to students as needed.

 

Term of Employment:            Teacher Contract

 

Salary Range:                         Determined by placement on teacher salary schedule.

 

Evaluation Frequency:           Job performance will be evaluated a minimum of 1 time per year.
