ESL Coordinator

ESSDACK, a student-centered, trauma-informed educational service center, is seeking the right person to lead our Haysville Learning Cafe as ESL Coordinator. Our Centers work with adults who have experienced difficulty completing high school, something that occurs for a wide variety of reasons. Working extensively with local school districts, we can provide our students with pathways to graduation.

The Haysville Learning Cafe, located in Haysville, Kansas, is a strong program with a solid enrollment base and good relationships with local schools. Ideal candidates will be able to maintain these strengths while creating a safe and supportive work environment for our students. Empathy, flexibility, and communication skills are all critical.  

 

Job Description

This position is responsible for overseeing all activities associated with instructional services to ESL students at the center. Job expectations include facilitating student learning, maintaining a safe and orderly learning environment, implementing necessary record-keeping systems, leading local recruiting efforts, and working directly with students to develop Individual Plans of Study.


MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Kansas Educator License


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS

  • Knowledgeable about the needs of English Language Learners.
  • Knowledgeable about laws and services applicable to non-English speaking population (i.e., dream act, citizenship requirements, etc.)
  • Understand the regulations and best practices for English Language Learners.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Proficient with computers, Google and Microsoft Products

OTHER DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior Instructional experience
  • ESL Endorsement
  • Knowledge of CTE, Workforce, and Registered Apprenticeships is preferred but not required.


GENERAL DUTIES

  • STUDENT LEARNING
    • Conduct student transcript reviews as directed by Site Director
    • Coordinate with the student`s district/counselor to develop the student’s individual Plans of Study.
    • Motivate and support students in educational  endeavors
    • Deliver whole group, small group, and digital instruction
    • Develop Curriculum
    • Create rigorous, relevant lessons
    • Set classroom protocol and create a conducive learning environment
    • Transition students to the Diploma Program.
    • Ensure that each student has an appropriate, individual education plan with a graduation goal.

  • LEADERSHIP EXPECTATIONS
    • Collaborate with Site Director and Site Manager
    • Foster relationships with the non-English speaking community and agencies who serve this population.
    • Establish practices that lead to student retention
    • Attend ESL coordinator meetings as scheduled.
    • Collaborate with and support other learning center`s ESL programs
    • Direct and supervise ESL para if applicable.

  • RECRUITMENT
    • Coordinate with Site Director to plan and carry out year-round marketing initiatives.
    •  
  • CLERICAL
    • Maintain and update both digital and standard student files
    • Maintain Audit records to ensure accuracy
    • Conduct CASAS testing and track data. Report data to Site Director.
    • Answer phone calls and emails in regards to questions that arise from students or school districts


Working Conditions:

  • Moderate standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.

 

Other duties as assigned by the Site Director or Learning Center Director.
