Elementary Instructional Coach for 2024-25

Purpose: The Instructional Coach will collaborate with the principal to facilitate the instructional program. The Instructional Coach will work directly with teachers modeling classroom-based strategies, providing collaborative and one-on-one support, and facilitating teacher inquiry and related professional development. Responsible to: Principal Payment rate: According to negotiated agreement Qualifications: - Bachelors degree from an accredited college/university.
- Current Kansas State Teaching Licensure with endorsement appropriate to the assignment on file in the Central Office.
- Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the Central Office.
- 5 years of outstanding experience as a classroom instructor preferred
Essential Functions:
- Curriculum Specialist
- Assist teachers in the acquisition of appropriate, district approved resources for students
- Understand key components of different program, and how those look in the classroom
- Share research, best practices with school staff
- Work with staff to align resources and practices with the approved curriculum
- Align the written, taught and tested curriculum
- Adjust pacing and curriculum guides to ensure alignment with guaranteed curriculum
- Assist with the selection and evaluation of resources district-wide
- Data Analyst
- Ensure that student achievement data is driving instructional decisions
- Assist staff with the compilation and analysis of student achievement data
- Lead data dialogues with staff to ensure instruction is based on data
- Organize assessment processes used to determine student performance; assist with flexible grouping appropriate to the instructional process; communicate the analysis of data to administration and staff.
- Learning Facilitator
- Align site and district professional development with district foci
- Collaborate with school and district leadership to align change initiatives to school and district vision
- Collaborate and support teachers to achieve common goals
- Plan and facilitate professional development at school and district-wide that aligns with the principles of effective adult learning
- Increase instructional skills of novice staff
- Provide on-going job-embedded professional development to school and district staff
- Create a positive learning environment, with a continual emphasis on staff improving their professional abilities
- Facilitate and support department/team meetings.
- Instructional Specialist
- Communicate clearly and accurately
- Use questioning and discussion techniques with staff to support professional learning

- Assist staff with the designing coherent instruction
- Assist staff with the selection of appropriate instructional goals

- Catalyst for Change
- Meet with building administration on a regular (weekly) basis to monitor the implementation of instructional strategies appropriate to support Reading and/or Math within the content areas.
- Display behaviors and attitudes that align with building and district vision
- Understand the change process and align professional practices
- Professional Responsibilities:

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions: - Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
- Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
- Occasional stooping, bending, and reaching.
- Must work indoors and outdoors year-round.
- Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
General Responsibilities: - Support the mission and vision of the Emporia Public Schools.
- Work in classrooms to provide sustained, job-embedded support by observing, modeling, co-teaching, mentoring, providing feedback, identifying resources, and problem-solving with teachers.
- Facilitate and support department/team meetings. Communicate effectively with administrators, parents, staff, and community organizations with regard to student progress/needs.
- Organize assessment processes used to determine student performance; assist with flexible grouping appropriate to the instructional process; communicate the analysis of data to administration and staff.
- Meet with building administration on a regular (weekly) basis to monitor the implementation of instructional strategies appropriate to support Reading and/or Math within the content areas.
- Provide/facilitate targeted and on-going staff development activities to include summer training.
- Stay abreast of new technologies to facilitate and support student learning, data management, and communication.
- Uphold and enforce board policy, administrative procedures, and school rules/regulations including but not limited to:
- Acceptable use of technology
- Sexual and racial harassment
- Child abuse reporting
- Health and safety including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan
- Assist teachers in the development and implementation of curricular modifications/classroom strategies.
- Interact with students, parents, and staff in a professional manner demonstrating tolerance of individual differences, patience, and sensitivity.
- Maintain appropriate work habits, including regular and punctual attendance; timely submission of required reports; participate in staff, department, and committee/team meetings; contribute to SIT/IEP activities.
- Respect the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics, and state and federal laws.
- Attend/assist with school events; organize/supervise field trips; etc.
- Help to sustain the profession by supervising student teachers, observers, paraeducators, and aides.
- Facilitate academic assistance to students before and after regular school hours.
- Obtain instructional resources and materials through processes outlined by the principal.
- Supervise students at school by monitoring hallways and common areas.
- Be prepared to implement the Building Crisis Plan; actively participate in response drills.
- Maintain a safe and well-organized instructional space.
- Respond to change in a productive manner.
- Strive to communicate the positive aspects of our school program to the public in word and deed.
- Other duties as assigned by the Principal, or other building or district administration.
