Title:  School Improvement Specialist - Elementary

 

Reports to:  Principal(s) and Director of Teaching & Learning

 

Position Summary:   The School Improvement Specialist will mentor new staff- support classroom instruction and best practice- provide professional development- assist professional learning communities- and support the implementation of the building and district curriculum and assessment programs. The School Improvement Specialist will also be assigned additional duties and evaluative tasks- based on the experiences and skills of the candidate- as determined by the Principal(s) and Director of Teaching & Learning.

 

Qualifications:

Required:

  1. Master’s Degree required - School Leadership masters preferred
  2. Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience.
  3. Currently hold or be eligible for a Kansas certificate in respective content area
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of methods of effective instruction
  5. Desire and ability to work with students and staff
  6. A willingness to cooperate with and follow the directions of the school principal
  7. The ability and willingness to communicate with parents
  8. Ability to plan- organize- and see that activities are completed
  9. Proficient in data collection and reporting
  10. Excellent written and oral skills
  11. Proficient in Microsoft and Google applications     

Preferred:

  1. Leadership roles in education preferred
  2. Advanced Knowledge of the PLC process

  20. Adheres to all district health and safety policies- including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
  21. Other duties as assigned by the Principal- or other Administrative Staff.

 

Supervises:    

 

  1.   All certified- classified- and other personnel assigned to the building.
  2.   Other resource and service personnel while functioning in the building.

 

Physical Requirements:  Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in the work environment. Regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job is required.

 

  1.     Must have physical stamina to maintain job responsibilities.
    2. Requires occasional stooping- bending- kneeling- reaching- and turning.

Term of Employment: 

 

  1.   Be on duty from approximately July 22nd  through June 4th.
  2. Have an initial contract of one (1) year- from August through June (with exact dates to be determined by the Board- relative to the school calendar). Subsequent contracts may be for one (1) or two (2) years- at the Board`s discretion. 



Evaluation:  Performance effectiveness will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of Kansas Statutes and Board of Education Policy.

Basehor-Linwood Unified School District 458 serves students and families in a 90 square mile area of southern Leavenworth County, Kansas. We currently have 8 district attendance centers. Our Early Learning Center for Childcare and Pre-K opened for the 2020-21 school year in August. K-5 buildings are located in Bonner Springs, Basehor and the Glenwood Ridge subdivision. A new K-5 building, located in Basehor, opened in the Fall 2021. Students in grades 6, 7 and 8 attend Basehor-Linwood Middle School in Basehor, near the center of the district. Basehor-Linwood High School, located in Basehor, is a 5A school, serving students in grades 9 through 12. 

 

BLHS was named a 2012 National Blue Ribbon School. In addition, the district operates Basehor-Linwood Virtual School, an internet-based school serving approximately 250 K-12 students statewide instructed by Basehor-Linwood teachers.

 

Special Education services are provided by the Tonganoxie/Basehor-Linwood Special Education Cooperative located in Basehor.
