Butler Community College is seeking a dedicated and passionate full-time Theatre Technology and Design Instructor. The Butler Community College Theatre Department is part of a thriving Division of Art Digital Media and Communication (ADMC). The successful candidate will join a well-established program, offering four main-stage performances each school year utilizing either a 300-seat proscenium theatre or a Black Box theatre space with additional performing and technical opportunities throughout the division. Students work toward AA degrees in either Theatre Performance or Theatre Technical.

Primary responsibilities include developing and delivering an engaging, up-to-date curriculum to students in applied theatre courses (stagecraft, stage makeup, practicum) and additional theatre courses, as needed. Provide practical instruction and oversight in areas such as set design, lighting design, stagecraft, costuming, and set construction. Mentor and guide students in their technical theatre projects, fostering their creativity and skill development. Collaborate with faculty and theatre management staff in planning and executing theatrical productions with specific oversight of set/costume/lighting/projection design and technical support. Participation in recruitment activities as needed.

This is a technical theatre full-time faculty position. Knowledge in two or more of these areas: Scenery, Lighting, Costume Craft, Properties, Puppetry, and Audio Technology. The desired candidate will have experience in realized theatrical design for multiple aspects of theatre and experience in artistic rendering digitally or in traditional media.

The main duties include creating and presenting a dynamic, current curriculum for students enrolled in theatre appreciation and applied theatre courses (stagecraft, stage makeup, practicum). In areas like stagecraft, costuming, set design, lighting design, and set construction, give hands-on training and supervision. Encourage students creativity and skill development by serving as a mentor and adviser for their technical theater projects. Plan and carry out theatrical productions in conjunction with teachers and theater management personnel, assisting with technical support and set, costume, lighting, and projection design. involvement in hiring initiatives as required.

Salary Information

$41,800 - $55,400, depending on applicable experience and education. This is a 9-month contract position.
