Employer Information

USD 211 is located in Norton, Kansas which has approximately 3000 residents  located in North West Kansas. We are at the intersection of two major US Highways, 283 and 36. Norton in the County seat of Norton County, and as such, Norton is a regional trade center with a wide array of available services.

Norton boasts a full range of medical services. A newly remodeled hospital  and newly constructed Doctor`s Clinic has four primary care physicians and three second level practitioners on staff. Numerous specialists from Hays, KS and Kearney, NE see patients in Norton. Two dentists and an optometrist also practice in Norton.                                                                                                                                     

A very well developed internet backbone with high speed home and business internet service is available, as are excellent phone and cable TV services. Opportunities for recreation abound within Norton and Norton County. Available are a twin movie theater and a nine hole grass green golf course. For the hunter, Norton is recognized as the “Pheasant Capital” of Kansas. Fishing, boating, and camping opportunities are found at Keith Sebelius reservoir, located six miles west of town in the Prairie Dog State Park.

Educational Opportunities are readily available in Norton. Colby Community College offers a wide range of outreach classes in Norton. Also, Fort Hays State University is only 90 miles southeast and the University of Nebraska at Kearney only 90 miles northeast of Norton.

While very much a rural community and agriculturally oriented, Norton has a wide range of employment opportunities outside of agriculture and education. Major employers besides the school include a large and well staffed hospital, a regional office for the Kansas Department of Transportation, the national corporate offices for Valley Hope, an aluminum extrusion company, and two tool and die shops. Within fifteen minutes of Norton are a medium security prison and the offices for the Rural Telephone Company.

A person’s spiritual needs can be readily met in Norton. A wide range of churches and denominations are available in our community or close by. One of the largest USDs in Kansas by area USD 211 encompasses 678 miles. The district has property in the counties of Norton, Graham, Decatur and Sheridan. The District maintains three attendance centers; Eisenhower Elementary School serves our students in grades ECD-6. The Norton Junior High serves grades 7-8. The principal of Norton Junior High also serves as the athletic director for grades 7-12. The Norton Community High School is a KSHAA 3A School and serves students in grades 9-12. Staff, facilities, and programs are shared by the Junior High and High School. Special Education Services are provided through the district’s membership in the North Central Kansas Special Education Cooperative.
