USD #483 is looking for a positive, self motivated, caring, professional individual to fill this position. Job requirements and responsibilities are:

Work closely with the high school guidance counselor and building principals

Communicate effectively and often with building principals 

Continuously improve professional and interpersonal skills

Recognize and provide for individual differences and adjust practice

Recognize and appreciate diversity and individual differences

Create a positive and safe environment

Help families connect with current community resources and supports

Identify students with interpersonal challenges and work with students, teachers, and parents to meet needs

Collaborate with all stakeholders (teachers, parents, support staff, administrators, community)

Modify counseling program to meet individual student needs

Conduct group counseling sessions and classroom counseling sessions as needed

Counsel students with academic and/or attendance issues

Counsel students with interpersonal social adjustment and social emotional issues

Be a stakeholder on student intervention teams

Attend district enrollment, family math and reading nights, parent-teacher conferences, site council meetings and other activities principals feel are necessary

Strongly preferred to live within the USD #483 district

Degree/license in social work or counseling is preferred

Benefits Information

The district also offers ten sick days per year that accumulate to a max of 75. When the max number is reached, employees are reimbursed for unused sick days. The district also provides four emergency days and one personal day per year. These days do not accumulate.

The base salary for 2023-2024 is $44 500. We anticipate a raise for the 2024-2025 school year. The district also offers a $7 100 fringe benefit which is contingent upon the employee enrolling in the district health insurance plan. The district will honor up to ten years of experience on the salary schedule. The district also just added several additional steps to each column on the salary schedule. Ten extended contract days will also be paid at the counselor's daily rate.

Employer Information

USD 483 Southwestern Heights is a consolidated Jr/Sr High School comprised of students from the communities of Kismet, Plains and the Hayne area. Two elementary schools are also located in the district. One in Kismet; pre-K-2nd grades, the other in Plains; 3-5th grades. Our district enrollment approximately is 615 students. The school district encompasses 541 square miles. 

 

USD #483 has an outstanding reputation and a strong tradition of excellence. Southwestern Heights Jr/Sr High serves 325 students grades 6-12. Currently, there are 135 students in the junior high and 190 students in the high school. The Jr/Sr High School is located on Highway 54 between Kismet and Plains, 17 miles east of Liberal.

 

Southwestern Heights High School is a 3A KSHSAA school and a proud member of the Hi-Plains League.  Average class size is 14 students. Our district is also a member of the Southwest Plains Regional Service Center, located in Sublette.
