Seaman USD 345 is seeking applications for a Physical Therapist.

Job Summary: The physical therapist prepares students to respond appropriately and independently within the classroom environment and education program. The physical therapist collaborates with team members in the school to provide services to students in order to develop or restore sensorimotor function. The physical therapist is responsible for planning and implementing the goals of the Individual Education Plan (IEP.)

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

A valid drivers license is required for employment. REAL ID is required if air travel is necessary to complete job duties.

  1. Hold a degree from an approved program in Physical Therapy
  2. Hold or be eligible to obtain a Kansas Physical Therapy License

Preferred:

  1. Doctorate of Physical Therapy. 
  2. Two years or more experience as a licensed Physical Therapist in providing direct services to children, adolescents, and young adults in clinical and or school settings

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Functions:

  1. Functions as a member of multi-disciplinary teams to evaluate student function, identifying appropriate school-based therapy services and progress.
  2. Chooses activities to improve student performance in the skill areas (i.e., functional mobility, gross motor, positioning, strength, range of motion, muscle tone, daily living, etc.) necessary for accessing the curriculum, learning, and functioning within the school environment.
  3. Identifies, acquires, and supports the use of accommodations or equipment necessary to facilitate student access to the curriculum and learning environment(s).
  4. Assists with modification of school tasks and activities to accommodate the needs of students.
  5. Reviews and participates in development of IEPs, evaluation, assessment, and progress reports.
  6. Maintains specified records with data on each student referred, evaluated, and/or identified for ongoing physical therapy services.
  7. Submits records, reports, and assignments promptly and efficiently.
  8. Establishes and monitors caseloads, procedures, and resources to manage school-based physical therapy services.
  9. Provides other related, direct services through a variety of methods (e.g., classroom presentations, in-services to staff/parents, etc.) as needed.
  10. Adheres to the ethical standards and codes of the profession and to the established rules, regulations, and laws governing special education programs.
  11. Participates in activities that promote professional development and use clinical/educational research to enhance direct services.
  12. Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of school-based physical therapy services.
  13. Excellent organizational, and oral and written communication skills.
  14. Ability to work independently and to effectively handle multiple school assignments.

General Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain timely documentation.
  2. Support the mission, goals, and objectives of the Southeast Kansas Education Service Center (SEKESC).
  3. Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills.
  4. Maintain strict confidentiality as outlined by FERPA and HIPAA.
  5. Ability to work alone and in groups to provide services.
  6. Maintain professional relationships with families.
  7. Assume responsibility for individual professional growth by staying current with literature, research, and/or practices.
  8. Demonstrate proficiency in the ability to effectively and regularly communicate with other employees of the SEKESC and constituents.
  9. Complete all assignments in a timely manner including communication with other staff and families.
  10. Follow all safety requirements as directed by the SEKESC.
  11. Regular and predictive attendance in the designated work location as determined by the Executive Director or designee.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or designee.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Lifting more than 50 pounds with support.
  2. Manage all job duties with mobility, agility, and dexterity.
  3. Sit/stand for long periods of time.
  4. Work in loud/stressful environments.
  5. Ability to drive in varying weather and geographical conditions.
  6. Being exposed to infectious and contagious diseases.
  7. Being exposed to hazardous materials.
  8. Being exposed to work settings that offer a risk to personal security and that are not ADA compliant.
